The $5,000 Wardrobe - Page 15

Bumping this as there's some good info in here from a couple members, plus somebody asked me what mine would be. Mine is sort of biased towards hotter weather and TBH this is sort of what my 'basic' wardrobe looks like anyways (before having to sell practically everything ffffuuuu.gif)

All of the items listed are at prices I've seen quite regularly so not any 'insane' deals that you have to wait months for. This is definitely a 'younger' wardrobe that isn't focused on needing dress wear 5x a week or anything like that.

Footwear:
MMM White GATs- $300
Buttero Black Boots- $300
Brown C&J Captoe- $400

Shirts & Pants:
Prada Charcoal Suit- $800
5x Borrelli Slim Fit Shirts- $600
Dry Bones (or any JP denim)- $200
Navy & Khaki JCrew Cotton Chinos- $100
Rick Owens Black Denim- $200

Outerwear
Schneider Knit- $200
SNS Stark- $200
Rick Owens Black Leather- $1000

Accessories:
Uniqlo Sport Trunks- $50
Uniqlo Socks- $50
Uniqlo Tees- $50
Brooks Brothers Brown Dress Belt- $75
EOI Mr Olive Brown Belt- $100
EOI Mr Olive Black Belt- $100
Parke & Ronen Swim Trunks- $75
5x Corgi Dress Socks- $100
5x Ties of B&S- $100

I could definitely add in more things by listing lower quality of some items, but I like this list and eventually over the next 1-2 years buying stuff to fill certain gaps.

If you wanted to save money I would skimp on these areas first:

Trade the white GATs for some Converse or something.
Trade the Borrellis for something cheaper. I pick the slim fit Borrelli because they fit me great OTR, pretty much no alterations needed and fabric is good.
Trade the Rick leather for a TOJ of B&S for like $500 or pick up something in cotton for $300 or so.

Those three things alone would save you around $1k.

Common Projects Black Combats - $250

Pants:
Samurai Blue Shadow - $175
Blanc & Noir Cargos (Brown, Navy & Black) $240
Blanc & Noir Chinos (Green and Beige) $100
Helmut Lang Black Jeans - $75
Helmut Lang Light Blue Jeans - $50
Number Nine Brown Cords - $75

Shirts:
5x Rag and Bone Duke Shirt $250
2x Agnes B Shirts - $50
Wings + Horns Blue Flannel - $75

Jackets:
Rag & Bone Leather Double Rider -$300
Hickey Freeman Leather Bomber -$300
Unis M65- $100
Svensson x Armor Lux Peacoat - $200
Crescent Down Works Navy Wool Vest - $125

Undies:
Hanes Comfortsoft V-necks $20
Merona Trunks - $10

Acessories
Filson Bridle Leather Belt Brown - $40

This is actual cost.. Got some good deals here and there. Probably going to get some 3/4 sleeve henleys and long sleeve cotton shirts for summer. Want a linen pullover and some trunks for the beach. Probably forgot a bunch of stuff. I have more stuff at home, but not at college. Kind of sad I have spent this much on clothes since I bum around in running shoes + gym shorts all day.

Big spenders, I wonder if I can get to $5k based on what I already own and what I've got planned:

Footwear:
Leather Soul x Alden Ultimate Jumpers (black shell): $475
Leather Soul x Alden Ultimate Jumpers (#8 shell): $475
John Varvatos low-top converse: $60 (ebay)

Pants:
Epaulet Rivet Chinos x 4 @ $135 = $540
Epaulet Rivet Chinos x 2 @ $150 = $300
RRL selvedge denim: $250

Shirts:
(planned) 10 MTM WvG/etc, ~$150 each = $1500

Outerwear:
(ordered) 1 ToJ Moto: $800

Basics:
12 CK white undershirts, $15/3: $60
12 2(x)ist boxer briefs: $120
12 black gold toe crew socks: $40

Odds and ends:
2 pair WvG knickers @ $75 = 150

Wow, that's $4700 and the only thing I don't actually have are my MTM shirts and one more pair of Epaulet Rivet Chinos. That leaves me with $300 to find a decent year-round hoodie, I guess.

I can't believe I've spent over $3k in clothes the past couple years.. wow.

I'd have to sit down and calculate the numbers but between my outerwear and shoes, i'm sitting at 5k.

That's a good start but I think you only need a couple of chinos. Unless you're in a particularly warm climate you'll also need a winter coat, and perhaps a summer harrington.

A good dark coloured blazer is relatively essential too.

With the purchased of a TOJ my "planned wardrobe" had been completed, so I decided to add up the costs of everything I've spent over the past two years. As a longtime lurker hopefully I've learned something. Here is my wardrobe as of now and it suffices for both casual and business casual wear. Fortunately, I've had some luck with sales, eBay, and lurking the B/S threads. I've also had the pleasure of receiving hand me downs from my father's wardrobe and this, with the help of a good tailor has allowed me to build an acceptable MC wardrobe. wtf howd you find all your jil stuff for so cheap?
eBay. All of it is from the Jil era, and it strangely usually goes for pretty cheap. Also, in the MC B/S thread, you can usually pick up Jil slacks at a good price.

Haha, you could probably cull half of that.  You have 16 pairs of pants!  Seems like you found some nice deals though.

ehhh that's combined pants and jeans... and if you live somewhere with distinct seasons where you need both lightweight and heavyweight pants that's not really that much.

I live in such a place and have five... I'd imagine if you had that many at least half would sit in the closet most of the time.

I would imagine that, all of the time, 15 out of 16 would sit in the closet unless you wear two pairs of pants at the same time.

If I'm using sale stuff I could do this pretty easily but I don't really understand why an arbitrary ceiling like $5000 should matter. Why not $3000? Why not $10,000?
