Selling a car on Craigslist: WTF?

My long story short, I am selling a cheap junker car on Craigslist this week. This is my first experience selling a cheap car anywhere and first time selling on Craigslist. So far, I have been bombarded by what I can only assume to be dodgy scammers. People sending video files, offering hundreds more than I am asking and generally sounding too keen (esp. considering there aren't even any pics with the ad yet). Something about their emails reminds me a lot of the spambots that poast here on SF so regularly. Is this normal? If so, how does one filter out the the suspect emails to find the genuine buyers - if there are any? What exactly are the scammers trying to do here? Any advice welcome. Sorry for the rant - I'm just frustrated. Given its a cheap car I really didn't intend to invest a lot of time into selling it.

The scam is a classic one. What they'll do is send you a money order in excess of the purchase price, then ask you to send them a refund. Of course, the money order is fake, and by the time your bank rejects it, it's too late. I've sold a car on CL before, in NYC no less. Sold it to a local guy for a cash deal. Use your common sense -- deal with local buyers only. If it's too good to be true, it probably is.

Use local buyers, meet in person and demand cash only. I've sold a junker on cl before. The whole transaction took 5 hours from the time I placed it onto cl until he drove away and I had money in hand.
