Best jazz clubs in D.C. - Page 2

HR57 can be expensive. My gf and I dropped in one night and the cover was $40 each. It must've been somebody famous playing, but I'm not a big enough jazz fan to justify that kind of cover.

Exactly what I thought. Sticker shock at the cash register FTL! I'm glad it wasn't a first date with the gf, or I probably would've sucked it up and pay the cover in order to not look like a cheapskate. Probably not an every night occurrence, but I can see how a klassy joint like that can pull in the big names to warrant that kind of a cover charge.

What time do bars close in D.C.?

There's some after hours stuff going on if you know people. Marvin on U Street especially.

if you're broke, twins jazz on the corner of 14th & U is relatively cheap for a jazz club.

also, on tuesdays at tryst in adams morgan there is a free jazz band that plays. sometimes it features butch warren, who also plays at columbia station a little further down 18th st.

Highly unusual. Cover is usually around $8-$10 with a $3 cork fee. Generally, it's one of the cheapest places to drink in the city.

I was going to recommend Twins Jazz too. The missus and i saw Felicia Carter there. Awesome.

Blues Alley can be expensive because they book big names. We saw Stacey Kent there who is NOT TO BE MISSED!

twins is great, i stumbled into their open mic night when a show i was going to check out at the black cat sold out. cheap drinks, great atmosphere, and just the right size and ambiance imo for seeing jazz.

i'm not that big of a jazz fan to warrant spending the money on a show at blues alley.

Yeah, I thought that night was probably an aberration. I'll try HR57 again, especially since it's only a few minutes from my apt.

Dude, you are 21 or so, correct? Why do you want to go to a jazz bar? Go to some hole with plastered whores.

No wonder you never get laid.

Did you ever see the Charles Carlton Trio when they played weekly at the Columbia Station a few years back? Charles works "wonders" with his guitar.

Is Takoma Station still during good jazz?
