Recommendations welcome. Preferably a place that has fairly cheap drinks/cover.

There is supposed to be a nice slightly "hidden" gem in Georgetown....entrance in an alley...someone will know the name, i can't think of it...

Actually yes, there are a couple on U street as well. I know the one in Georgetown draws some bigger names.

No cheap drinks or cheap cover. It's the Blues Alley. They book many big name acts.

Yep. U Street is basically ground zero for DC Jazz. PM me when you're actually in town.

HR57, which was named after a House resolution that designated jazz as national treasure, is a pretty cool place: http://www.hr57.org/ It's quite close to U Street and is BYOB. There's a charge to bring your own booze, but it's not much. This will be the cheapest place in town. It's around the corner from where I live. Bohemian Caverns is a well known place on U Street.

BYOB at HR57 is the tits. Tight quarters - will allow you to close in on middle-aged jazz groupies.

Nice. Sounds awesome. What time do bars close in D.C.?
Yea, Blues Alley is great but it's not cheap at all. Go to U Street.

HR57 is great. It's cheap, and the musicians are rising stars. Twins on U Street books more established acts, but they have a minimum food/drink charge.
