In a different idiom, I think Peter Bohlin's Gaffney House is about perfect for a little country house.

Matt, post interior pics. And you need to work on your photography skills. Everything is cut off. Or do you only own half the house?

I don't have interior pics, but it is four buildings, which makes photography hard for a guy with an i-phone.

Some of the places posted in this thread are stately homes really, not country houses. My favorite country house in the UK is far too hard to call, but Filoli is the prettiest country house I visited in the states.
It struck me as a good balance between "classic" english country house design and mediteranian/local influences, so it didn't look ridiculous in its setting. Worth a visit if you are near San Fransisco.

The mother of one of my high school friends grew up at Filoli. I grew up a couple minutes away. Nice place, the concerts in summer are great.

I generally associate "country home" with English cottages, to which I wish we had some around here...

This isn't in the same league as what the OP means by "country houses" but here's mine:

Hannerhan, that's really cool. I bet you get some great views and sunsets in that place.

Yeah I really think it's tough to beat the desert southwest when it comes to views and sunrises/sunsets. The colors of the land are just so awesome.

Our house faces East with mountains behind it, so it's the sunrises from the front porch that are nice.
