Writing my own recommendations for jobs

I am applying to a couple jobs that require 3 recommendations. 2 of the 3 people I asked said "just write it and I'll sign it."

On one hand, it's nice that I can write whatever I want about myself. On the other hand, it's a little strange that 66% of the recommendations my potential employers will read will have been written by me.

How common is this?

Very. Be sure to emphasize different things in the recs.

Super common, although this current round of job applying, I got people to actually write them.

Write one yourself and have a friend write the other. Preferably a friend who had an entirely different major than you. That way they will both be authentically different in style.
