New guy from MI

Just wanted to introduce myself and say hi to start things off.

I'm a pretty blue-collar guy. Khaki's and a polo or button-up at work, jeans and a t-shirt at home. Looking to step it up and become a little more fashion conscious. 2 things working against me: I'm a redhead and fairly color blind. So ya, any help is greatly appreciated.

Last year, I spent about 3 months in Austria and Germany and developed quite a bit of respect for mens style over there. The average dress on the street: Nice jeans, a button-up shirt, and dark shoes. Baggy jeans, white tennis shoes, and white socks are hardly ever seen.

Here's a few random pics.

That is almost as weird as striking up a conversation with "where's the foam party?"

True.

Is this why you came to Chicago to see Tina Turner in concert?

Yeah, me neither. I've heard good things though. Same goes for foam parties.

Haha. I've lurked around this forum long enough to know this probably isn't true. And if it is, trust me, I have no problem with it.

No, it isn't true. Kyle may only have one ball but I'm pretty sure he saves it for the opposite sex. Are you more interested in SW&D, MC or foam parties(assuming you have looked at the WAYWT threads)?

Nah. I live in CA. I went to school in Chicago and a friend kept trying to convince me to come back to Detroit to go to Funk Night with him. I should have.

I'd say more SW&D. I wear a suit about twice a year (Pronto Uomo's). My coworkers average workwear in the US is from Sears or JC Penny's. Dockers and a button-up shirt. When I work in Europe, it's jeans and a button-up shirt. I used to be comfortable with that stuff but as I've matured, I'm realizing there's so much more out there. It's amazing how much clothing looks great on a plastic mannequin but horable on me though.

Okay so I guess you've been lurking here a bit, yeah? My only advice is to limit your questions to either the "Ask a question, get an answer" thread or threads that have already been created. Actually, that is not my only advice. From the pictures, I think you need to improve on shirts, pants/denim, outerwear and I can't see your shoes but I can guess (and it is horrible). Shirts are the cheapest and fastest way to see a difference. You might end up buying online (SF B&S, affiliates or otherwise) given your location so get comfortable with you measurements and try to get a feel for what comes boxy and what comes ridiculously slim. As you don't seem to be a prick, needy or stupid-I think you will get along just fine here. If you have any questions I would invite you to PM me but my inbox is full and I will never empty it. So... PM someone else. You could probably also post questions in this thread for a while as people seem to be looking at it. And with that I conclude the longest post I have ever made.

Thanks for the info. I've been here around a week, give or take, off and on. I didn't really intend on this topic getting into this much detail. Just wanted to do the intro. Once I have a chance to take a few better pics in some workwear maybe I'll make a post in the threads you recommended. Trust me, I know I need to improve everything. My shoes are what actually drove me to come here. I won't post a pic, for fear of being banned for bad taste. I've been traveling or working like crazy for the past year, which has given me zero time to keep the wardrobe up. So I figure I'll hang around here for a bit and be a little more educated before doing the revamp.
