Article on tailcoats

Thanks - this was a great read. I especially liked the comments on the lifecycle of clothes, i.e. how they go from beeing sports clothes to beeing waiters' clothes. B

Manton: Excellent article; great history. You know I enjoyed it. Sounded like the history section of the formalwear chapter of the Encyclopedia of Men's Clothes.. THANKS. "Recall that scene in the movie The Remains of the Day, where a bunch of grandees are having dinner in an English country house in the 1930s? They are all wearing black tie. The staff is in tails." But the servants were not wearing white tie, but black. That was the way to tell the difference between the guests and the servants. Andy
