Do 511's work alright on 6'1 175lb guys?

Depends on your legs and stuff. I'd check out 511s, 514's, and 501's, in that order, and see what works best for you fit-wise -- then, look for an appropriate wash. Try a few different sizes (waist) in each as well, to see what works best for your thighs/waist. (514's and 501's probably work best for average-sized legs/waists, while 511's are for slimmer individuals.)

Should I even try to attempt 501 shrink to fits? I've never done raw denim before.

They are on sale for $32.99

I have a pair and personally, I don't like the color. I just wear them when I work on my car or do yard work.

I was thinking about using them for work as well. My dad usually has me work everyday on the house with him.

Did you shrink/wash yours yet?

I was thinking I would just get the fitting size, assuming they stretch out an inch after you wash them, and the label tells you to size up.

That way, I can actually wear them comfortably while I work in them/work them in.

if you don't want to shrink them, just get washed 501's so you don't have to deal with all the stretching and shrinking of stf's. that just makes sense doesn't it? and i don't know if I'm misreading your post or not but you said they 'stretch out an inch after you wash them'... you're backwards on the stretching and shrinking stuff there brother

If the tag tells you to size up because they shrink, and jeans stretch out an inch, then shouldn't you just get whatever feels comfortable before you shrink them?

Lets say I get size 33x36 to size up before shrinking.

Then they shrink to 32x34

BUT then they stretch out an inch to 33 again, right?

So I was thinking of just getting whatever feels comfortable and as tight as possible while still being comfortable to work in.

I normally wear a 32x32 in pre-washed Levis (514, etc.)

I bought 32x34 in the 501 STF, hot soaked them, wore them off and on for about 2 months, then hot-soaked them again. It's not the ideal way to get fades or anything like that, but the second hotsoak shrunk them down a little better.

After the second hot soak they were a little snug in the waist, but they've stretched back out a tiny bit and now they're comfy.

I don't have any measurements to give you exact numbers though.

What's your height/weight?

You basically confirmed that my idea would work...

I have the same build, 511s look great. I wear 31/30, athletic thighs. They are tight right outta the store but stretch to your body to perfection after a couple days.

6'1 and 31x30? I find x32 a bit short sometimes...

^ Well it all depends on the look you are going for. I do 32 when I want some stack.

You wear 30 length and you're 6'1"? How stubby are your legs. I wear 32 length for 1 break, and I'm barely 5'9".

^ My legs aren't stubby, I simply don't like any stack on my jeans, except in black. This is very common with the 18-24 crowd.... I wonder what the average age of users on here is.
