I especially like the Thames sole as it is thin enough to allow for a nice shape to the waist of the shoe.

Bengal, what other retailers in London carry EG and JLP? I know Harrods carries JLP.

went to the sale this morning and just wanted to warn you:

usually, I wear an 8F (UK size) as I have a rather wide foot, but ended up buying a Chelsea 8.5D(UK) in black on the 888 last which is the narrowest size. The shoes I ended up buying fit perfectly and fitting depends really on the last an the model. So good luck with your orders.

BTW: the shop was quiete crowded and I haven't ever seen so many people wearing such wnderful shoes (their own ones, not the ones they tried on of course)

Just checked out the burgundy Gladstones. Beautiful shoes -- I would have bought them, but they had sold out my size (was it you Aportnoy!?!?!?!?). The EG burgundy is outstanding and the Gladstone is an excellent model. It is a true balmoral, a style that is rarely found elsewhere.

You tried 8F in the 888 and it didn't fit?

This sounds very strange. I am pretty much a D fitting across all models, except the 808, which runs narrow.

I took down the Southwold dark oak on the 888 and the Troon in Edwardian on the 82. Also, snagged a burnt pine belt.

Guilty as charged...sorry.

Another point to my (as yet unproven) theory that most people could get a better fitting shoe, by going up in length ½ size and down in width by a letter (or two, as in your case).

Shame that British manufacturers do not offer the choice of different fittings.

Was there this morning as well, but didn't buy anything.

haha, my theory is the opposite - at least for me. I wore an 8D U.S. forever and then realized that dropping 1/2 a size and going up in width was generally better: 7.5E.

btw picked up a Southwold dark oak on the 888

ha ha - that will be THE official shoe of the EG Summer Sale 2006. We should all get together for a reunion of the "SDO888 Club"
