A few years ago I bought 8 pairs of Clarks shoes in a sale and I just can't bring myself to wear them even though I only bought them for knocking about in the day. Some of them look real nice too. I'm no clothes snob but are Clarks shoes cool or uncool?

I wear Clarks tan suede desert boots...that's it for Clarks. I think the desert boots are "cool." :-/

Clarks are cool, but not in 10.5. If your 8 pairs are 10.5's, I'm sorry, but you must dispose of them. I will give the address for the Clarks uncool disposal service, which is totally not my address.

Sorry to disagree with you.
I have a pair of Clark's wingtips in 10.5 that are wonderful rainy day beaters.

I wear Wallabees for light hiking. They're elegant by virtue of their crudity.

Yep, I'm down with the db's too – had a thing for wallabees back in the day as well...

I had a pair I got in 2001 that lasted me for 5 years as work shoes. They looked what people call 'bowling shoes'. They were rad. I also had a pair of the same in brown which my brother stole from me (we were in the habit of taking each other's shoes since we both had the same size; he took a few of my Asics and I liberated some Visions and Nikes). I then got another pair of Clarks that are my current 'dress' work shoes, but I rarely wear them. I also have a pair of Rotor Beats I told myself I'd totally wear to work, but I rarely wear them at all. I like to beat up my sneakers and ****, but the Rotor Beats look so freakin' sweet I barely wear them at all... I've gotta take them out once in a while.

I wear a pair of Clark's "Un Structured" shoes to work quite often since I developed the bump on my heel known as Haglund's Deformity. A pair of Alden shell cordovan bluchers gave me the bump, and I'm wearing the Clark's a lot to reduce the swelling, since the Clark's have a soft heel counter.

Had a pair of Clarks that were similar to what MiddleClassDude describes - wore them as work shoes for a couple years until they were totally beat to ****. The most comfortable shoes I've ever owned - I have flat, wide feet and they felt like giant bunny slippers to me.

I have been wearing Clarks desert boots since I was fifteen (I'm 29) and they are still my favourite shoes, even now that I own many pairs of Church's, C&Js, Tricker's and the like. Well, obviously it's apples and oranges, but I do think that there is something chic and timeless about the desert boot design, so I wear them as much as possible. I just wish they made a leather-lined version for when it's colder.

I once did. And no, they're not cool! But once upon a time they were damn good shoes and lasted for years. That was when they were made in Street in Somerset UK. Now Clarks have gone the way of all flesh and manufacture in several far eastern countries I think they are a pale shadow of their former selves.

In fact it was the demise of Clark's quality that first drove me to Church's shoes. There was nowhere on the highstreet that I could find good quality shoes that fitted any more. My foray into Northampton made shoes revealed that Church's was one of the very few companies offering wide fitting shoes right across their range. Bliss!

Same here. I've Haglund's Deformity and plantar fascitis -- and I travel a lot. So, Clark's is the best in terms of comfort and utility.

In fact, I find that every time I wear AEs or Aldens, it only gets worse.
