Face Care

I'm interested in the processes and products you guys are doing to get clear skin at home.

I'm not particularly interested in seeking professional help, because my face is in ok shape, and I'd like to keep my expenses on consumable services to a minimum.

So far I'm using:

Kiehls facial fuel for men cleanser, moisturizer and exfoliate (once per week). I have a toner by dermatoligica but its not really that great.

If i were to do nothing I would have a 5 (for results not looks), with these products I would rate my results at a 6 or 7.

I'm starting to think that it may be the process that I'm doing wrong, or maybe I'm forgetting something that I should be doing.

So, what do you guys do and what results do you get?

Retin A is where it's at. Practically every other "skin care" product has zero evidence showing that it does anything. Retinoids have been shown to not only improve skin appearance but slow and reverse aging effects. Drawbacks are that it increases sun sensitivity and for the first month or so you can get skin redness if you get the generic (non-delayed release) formulation. Did I mention generic tretinoin is probably cheaper than whatever OTC you're using? All the dermatology residents here use it and they have plenty of free time to compare skin care regimens.

just get the proactiv kit and use it. the simple kit with the 3 steps. My wife is usually flawless and had some hormonal breakouts (haha probably her biological clock wanting babies) in late 2008. So I ended up buying the kit for her and she got pissed (as women can look at the negative side of a gift). So I made a deal: I'd use the kit with her. I have clear skin but thought why not. My wife's skin cleared up within a month and now is totally back to normal clearness... while I haven't had any skin problems what so ever for two years. warning though.. the stuff is has a mild bleaching effect so you're going to come out fairer and colored shirts and pillowcases will get semi bleached. I ended up sleeping in white t shirts and only applying it to my face (no neck) in the morning. honestly though I only use it at night 2x a week because I don't really need it. even my wife... after about 3 months all she does is use it at night (but every day with 1x week proactiv mask) and she's back to super clearness. being a doctor i know that its just benzoil peroxide, but maybe they have some sort of perfect mixture of the stuff because its not harsh and works.

No zits really, just clogged pores.

I started holding a steaming wash cloth over my face a while back to help a sinus infection and immediately noticed the improvement in my face in terms of my pores feeling cleaned out. I do it at least once a day followed by washing it with some castile soap.

^That toner and some benzol peroixde before moisturizing have been the best thing to happen to my skin. I've used a lot of different combinations, but that stuff did it for me. I can tell when I have and haven't been using it. I've found that different face washes don't make much of a difference. Another thing is making sure that your moisturizer isn't too thick or thin.

Did this tonight, looks much better, but I plan to do this every night from now on.

I'll definitely pick that stuff up, I tried some toner from proactive tonight and it seemed to work well.

I like everything but the facial mask, they tend to do nothing or make it worse for me.

My regimen consists of face soap applied with a Buff-Puff thingy followed by a moisturizer with sunscreen.
