NYC Dinner and Lounge for Celebration Suggestions - Page 2

Little Giant. If you can get a place there, it's very romantic, good food, and a decent wine/cocktail list. Went last week, had a great experience. Right by some other nice lounges and stuff.

Hehehe...I have to agree..but...a year and half ago I took a girl I was CRAZY for there on a first (and only) date...we had a great time (I had Block Island fluke), she even took me for cupcakes after...after that, never again, and we were on the same team in a league! In any event, turns out she is a hipster who was apparently being wooed by some family-less army brat vagrant from Alabama (nothing against the state, Roll Tide!) Welcome to crazy land, NYC, where you miss out on girls because you are too poor to pretend you are poor.

In any event, I agree w nearly every suggestion, many of those bars are great (pricey though). If you want to see the Federal Court when you are in town send me a PM.

Hudson (or Lexington) Bar & Books

For wine bars:
Pierre Loti
Terroir
10 Degrees

What is Hudson Bar & Books like? I walk by it frequently but the name doesnt really sound very compelling. I would also add 10 Bells to the list of wine bars, it is a great spot.

Hudson Bar & Books is a classy bar. It has a great scotch/drink list. But is also a cigar lounge, so if you don't like smoke, this may not be the bar for you (although the vacum works very well, so the smoke is not lingering). The wait staff is dressed in nice gowns/suits/tuxes. The ambiance is similar to Brandy Library - but actually has books on the wall (as opposed to the bottles lined up as books).

I was in Prague last weekend and ran into Bar & Books off of Old Town Square. It was a nice find at 1 a.m. (and also serves a very impressive absinthe presentation). A little slice of NYC in the Czech Republic (and a nice change of pace from the 10 Staropramen I had before).

To add to my earlier list, I also like the Bourgeious Pig. Although it does not serve liquor, the shandy and champagne punches are fantastic!

I also like Angel's Share and Rye Bar, but only if they are not crowded any annoying.

Thanks, that is great insight on HB&B, unfortunately cigars make it a non-starter for me, but at least I know now.

I could never get into either Bourgeious Pig or Angel's Share. Maybe BP's tacky/campy red decor is supposed to be the appeal but it doesnt do it for me. Angel's Share is always crowded. Will have to take a look at Rye Bar.

While we are on the subject, in an effort to try and be constructive, here are some others I like:

Little Branch, Wilfie & Nell, Bar Carrera, Joseph Leonard (if you can get a seat), Highlands and those are only in the west village....

If you like Little Branch, try East Side Company Bar or, the original Sasha Petraske joint, Milk & Honey (although it has changed a bit now that it is a "semi-private club." Bar Carrera and Bar Veloce are nice. So is Blue Owl (across the street) on weeknights. I also enjoy the occasional drink at Key Bar and Drop Off Service. Still, IMHO, nothing beats a good drink at ElevenMadison.
