Seriously, though . . .

The depth of the mantle often makes it ideal to use a piece that juts outward. I got a Grant's gazelle head, shot and mounted in 1989 according to the label on the back, at the Alameda Flea Market. I think Matt will be looking for a long time if he's set on finding a mounted predatory animal's head.

Don't put up standard taxidermy unless you killed it or were gifted it.

An Arty or grotesque piece would be a better choice...

I swear I saw the first one (out of the corner of my eye) open its mouth. Someone more talented than me animated gif wise should make it do something like that (wink, smile) every 60 seconds or so.

I advise looking for sources in the deep south. One place we looked at on the Gulf had ten or more big cats mounted in various ways (rugs, shoulder mounts, etc). It was so terrible as to be amusing. I especially liked the his and hers rugs on either side of the bed (lion with full mane for him and tiger for her). I believe the owner ran a wild-animal park of some sort.

Our friends have an old camp up in the adirondacks that isw chock-a-block w/ this kind of stuff (but local only). The camp we stayed in had a deer's rear end and back legs mounted very tastefully.

Of course for out west, you always have the elusive jackalope

When I moved to Healdsburg, I found a bar that has a taxidermy wild boar head. Everytime I go into that bar, I just stare at the thing. I really want one for my living room. But that shit is expennnnnsive yo.

Fine for the boar. I love the big cats though. I'd stick a human's head on a pole before a Tiger's.

I have an acquaintance in the U.K. who can possibly help with this.
