Japanese snowboarder banned from welcoming ceremony for being "sloppy"

I think they reacted a little harshly. Ok, he could've tucked in his shirt, yet the tall guy isn't even wearing a tie, and furthermore, this guy is chastised for having dreads, but the guy walking to the left of no tie guy has some major fro going on? Oh well, he's a good looking guy and he'll hopefully get some tail from all the attention.

It's an overreaction, but I kind of understand. He's a representative of his country, and there's no reason he couldn't clean up a bit. If I were the guy who made the decision I'd probably let it go, but I don't think it's outrageous that he wasn't allowed to participate.

This is why skateboarding and snowboarding shouldn't be olympic sports. Olympic decorum doesn't mix well with thrasher spirit

Nah - I'm sure we agreed on an excel formula somewhere...

I would rather watch snowboarding than lame ass 'sports' such a curling. Decorum just isn't that big of a deal...especially when it comes to him not looking "neat" in his attire.

If there is a set dress code and he violated it, I think it is fine that it has consequences. If no formal rules were in place, however, that would be different.

I could not agree more, actually. One question though, and my apologies if I am hijacking, but how would you guys feel about reintroducing Pankration (cf. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pankration) into the olympic games?

I enjoyed how the Japanese athletes were the only ones besides Canada to carry in Canadian flags. I thought that was very Japanese of them.

I'm sure at some point XC skiing was considered a rebellious upstart.

This being SF, I'm sure there would be wide support for it. Fierljeppen also needs to be an Olympic sport.

That's one of the craziest videos I've seen in a long time.
