Olympic opening ceremonies

I apologize on behalf of Canada for that complete cluster fuck, and assure you that what you saw has very very little to do with Canada.

They don't really have riverdancing rednecks and girls with chunky legs in Canada? We just got to that part...

I didn't watch it. Did they really not come through with sexy chicks dancing half-naked in the snow for the opening ceremony? Canada is so ghey. What's the pedobear mascot doing?

Give me a few thousand drumming, wave recreating Chinese over those silly Canucks any day of the week.

I thought it was alright except for the damned fiddlers and the complete and utter engineering fail that occurred at the end. Also I can't believe how casual Gretzky's cruise was. Less security there than a sheep farm in the Outer Hebrides.

Vancouver is a pretty safe city.

Anyways I don't think the ceremony was up to par with China, but I liked it. I agree the malfuction was pretty fail, though they probably could have slipped it by most viewers if they didn't hesitate for so long

I didn't watch it, the college basketball games stole my attention.

Le May Doan looked awfully lonely...

But don't blame the Canadians for this mishap -- they invented insulin, not viagra.

I think the fiddlers were the best part and probably had the most to do with Canada. Our true French and British heritage was neglected. The whole ceremony was unrepresentative of Canada, and particularly BC. I was hoping that Jacques Rogge would be lifted from his harness and do some twirls in the air but all hopes were dashed. I apologize on behalf of Canada for making you think that the Natives are the grand majority and that French is prevalent in Western Canada. Also, CTV censored the torch fuck up for us - so we missed the mildly interesting part. Next time it comes to Canada, it should be in Quebec city. At least the seperatists won't be afraid to stop all this minority-loving shit.

I take it you've never been to East Van. I'm from Winnipeg and I wouldn't go to East Van.

I'm guessing you couldn't afford East Vancouver.

Well to be fair Vancouver is like a big Chinatown. So you'd expect to see more than a few thousand Chinese waving.

I'm sorry on behalf of the xenophobic and tacitly racist attitudes of some Canadian forum members. As you can see, Canada is a mix of all races, religions and political ideologies and it's fortunate that we aren't as polarized as other nations seem to be right now. Canada's French and British heritage was well represented during the opening ceremony; the Governer General and PM were both present. In fact, the Queen's representative to Canada was the one who proclaimed the games "on".

It's also kinda interesting why someone who had nothing to do with the preparation of the event would applogize on behalf of Canadians. What a negative approach to a positive event. Take a look at the stands of BC place. How many people in the audience were First Nations? How many athletes? Do you sincerely believe that a ceremonial welcome from the country's Natives, who's traditional territories on which the games are taking place- are convinicing the world that they make up the bulk of our demographics? Natives have been woefully neglected since the Western discovery of the country and are just now beginning to experience positive reparations.

If there should be an appology for anything, it should be the complete and utter aarogance of this thread. There's meaningful criticism and then there's xenophobia and racism. Thanks for nothing.

I thought the ceremony was fantastic, as did everyone else I've spoken to. The people who brought out the Olympic flag and the torch-bearers are all amazing Canadians who have contributed more to our country than anyone who feels entitled enough to degrade any ethic group that makes up our nation. There was no way it could compete with China. The cost of the games are well beyond what they should be and excessive spending on ceremony would have been a waste of taxpayer dollars.

I wasn't paying too much attention, but who was the neck beard redneck who made us Canadians sound retarded with an inferiority complex?
