I made a thread about Beijing a few months back but my plans have changed and now I'm heading to Hangzhou. I'm going to be arriving there in 2 weeks, anything I should know? I know Shanghai is relatively close, any information on public transportation to and from the two cities?

I got a lot of great info on the Beijing post, looking forward to hearing more from you guys. Cheers

I visited there a couple of years ago when I was in Shanghai. The West Lake area is a popular tourist destination for Chinese, but mostly unknown to foreign tourists. They demolished everything there a few years ago and built all new buildings so there is kind of a Disneyland/fake feel to the place. I didn't spend much time in the city itself, but what I did see there didn't seem to be anything particularly special about it. It's pretty clean by Chinese standards. There were some high-end stores by the lake, but probably not many foreign stores/restaurants in the city proper. The train ride to Shanghai was about 1.5 hours IIRC.

my school does their China study abroad program there. I hear it's a really nice place, in chinese folklore it is renowned for having beautiful women (who don't shave)
