And I'm obviously just using 285 a month to make that seem like a joke of an amount. I have no idea how much I spend on alcohol. $70 a night sounds normal, ~7 for a pint + 1.50 tip and then maybe 6-7 pints and a 2-3 drinks for my girlfriend... I'm not going to count patios on a Saturday afternoon as "going out"

And I want to lie to myself and say I spent less than I do lol

I did by 8. Going out once a week is not normal lol. No afternoons, Saturday nights and Friday nights only.

Sorry, this is in St. Louis, Missouri, USA.

I know there was a recent referendum passed on smoking in St. Louis county; I forget the details but I'm not sure how much longer the indoor smoking is going to last anyways.

Yes, this is the place. They may have an exemption because they sell tobacco products. I'm not 100% about the various requirements for all of the exemptions.

yeah there are some pretty great cigar bars in new orleans that get around the rule too, probably by selling tobacco edit - dominican family-owned places have the hottest bargirls

I'm a member of a cigar lounge in the DC area and they have no liquor license, which means I'm free to stock my locker full of whatever alcohol I desire. That's a true bargain.

8 Beers = £9
Burger and Fries = £3.

Every night of the week! God Bless Student Life!

Anyone that would pay any amount of money to belong to an "exclusive" drinking club is retarded. Why would anyone want to spend time around people that are so self-important that they feel compelled to spend money so that they can more easily brag about their jobs and flash cash in "exclusive" bars, or that think they're cool because they're "in the know." I'd rather donate my money to the opera or the zoo.

I agree. It really is unfair that the mentally handicapped get the best paying jobs.

I already have memberships with the museum and symphony that I don't use. My brother calls me "retarded", although he does use my museum passes for dates.

I don't think I would join to flash money (of which I have none) or brag about my work (a stodgy boring profession), and the last thing on my mind is to converse with the posh patrons. For me, it's mostly to try some new cocktails and hopefully have a quiet place to have a drink, from time to time with an acquaintance, without 10 TV screens blinding me, bartenders who use Real Lime instead of fresh squeezed lime, and spilt drinks from suburban mothers who want to get hammered before jumping on the GO.

Reviving this thread since TTS has apparently opened. I'm just back in TO after a 2-year stint in Chicago. Any SFers members at TTS?

Would love to hear reviews, might consider membership if still open.

Sure I am. Except I haven't been there since they opened July 8 - busy at work and/or other commitments. They open Thursday to Monday 6pm- last call. They gave me a swipe card but they told me there is no real security. I'm not sure if that is a renovation problem or they decided to go the less posh route. Renovations delayed their opening for a good week.

They got Kevin Brauch from Thirsty Traveler to come on Saturday according to my mailing list.

There are pictures of the interior on Martini Boys. They also don't have much if any food and the menu has been revised to reflect that but they are working to solicit ideas to improve that. I think right now they run down to Negroni or Side Car and get you things. Rather reminds me of the Zanzibar staff running out to get food.

So I made my first appearance alone. On a Thursday, the place attracted two parties of four and some couples and the odd single (plus myself). I sat at the bar. They go over the rules at first - the only one they focus on is no conversations on your mobile inside. I was hit with a shot of tequila afterwards. The bartender is quite loquacious and loves to talk about all the different components of the cocktail and the origin of them. On the night I went, however, there was only 1 bartender so 1 on 1 conversation was sparse. I ended up engaging in a talk about scotches, Torontoniasm (yeah the stuff other SF members complain about) with someone at the bar. They actively promote this "communal" feel amongst members. The other people at the bar seats are real drinkers, foodies, etc. Lots of talk about restaurants and fine dining.

The swipe card is for naught. They just ask you for your (first) name and I honestly have no idea how they check if you're a member. I assume if your name is John they are going to scratch their heads a little. I heard they wanted to cap it at 500 so memberships are still open.

All the cocktails were pretty strong but they all tasted pretty distinctive and had no alcohol taste to it. I tried the Toronto Temperance (a rye cocktail), Downtown Woodbridge (Manhattan) and The Japanese (a cognac, juice type drink). Ice water was generous and the only food they have are some strange bits and bites type nibbles. I finished off with a Canadian single malt (didn't know it existed) in the end. The nice thing about it is they don't measure too much like in a hotel (Royal York comes to mind) and you get generous pours on the house. They love to get you to try different spirits, drinks, etc.

The place seems to be in a shake out period. The lights were going in and out all night. The lone bartender had to run down a few times (assuming to Side Car). That washroom is seriously dark. My father pre-cataract surgery would not be able to navigate it. Apparently, there are some "problem" members; people who help themselves to the left overs in the shaker at the bar, touching glassware behind the bar, etc. Also people who come and pretend it's their own club. But the night I went it was swell. I saw a group who came up after midnight who were non-members, I assume they were Side Car customers trying to get upsold into a membership.

As for dress code, there isn't much if at all. Best dressed bloke (besides me of course) was one who had a sport coat and open collar dress shirt and slacks.
