He rocks. It doesn't get much better than this:

Or does it? Another version:

I recently got Exclusively for My Friends. It's a great album with 4 CDs of some of the best Oscar Peterson I've heard.

Oscar peterson is amazing and especially when he's an accompaniment such as both Ella and Louis albums, Louis Armstrong Meets Oscar Peterson, and Steppin' Out: Astaire Sings to name a few. The former have Buddy Rich on the drums and are simply perfect.

Here's an example of when Oscar overplayed. A song I might add Nat played perfectly.

This isn't to say I don't think he isn't one of the best ever.

Dude...Exclusively for My Friends should be required listening for any jazz fan. It is some of the grooviest live jazz around. Recorded at the absolute peak of Oscar's career. Thanks for that vid...Ray Brown and NHOP on the same stage!!! He has no equal. Seriously. I would argue he was the greatest jazz pianist of all time (Tatum's great but Oscar made better music). Top 5 jazz musicians ever and my personal favorite. I'll always remember when I learned of his death. Was at a Christmas party.

I'm going to have to respectfully disagree. This video of Nat speaks for itself. And on top of that he was a world class singer.

Oscar Peterson was one artist who played the Toronto Jazz Festival I never got around to seeing and I kick myself for it.

He's definitely my favorite Jazz pianist. Ever since I was a kid I loved listening to him. Night Train was my first Jazz cd! It's sad that all three in the first video have passed away. NHOP died much too young! It's amazing that Oscar continued to play pretty much all the way until the end.

I just got a copy today of his We Get Requests on audiophile K2HD CD. Terrific performance. A classic small ensemble jazz recording.

Yeah, I miss NHOP. And Ray Brown was just a giant.
