I don't know about that. You would think they would try to use their "real strategy" in the friendlies leading up to the cup. I mean you only get a few opportunities with the full A team and there isn't any time for messing around with novel ideas a week before the tournament.

So having said that, watching the US yesterday was a little frightening. Their defense was good in the second half, but in the first Turkey had opportunities one after another. The US got caught on counterattacks way too often. It is a concern for sure.

I wouldn't be shocked if we beat England by playing out of our ass and then turned in two steaming piles for performances in the last two.

Exactly. It's the US way.

Other teams must hate having to play us. Our style of play is brutal and we suck for the most part, but we're just efficient, composed, and motivated enough to frustrate and annoy anyone on any given day. There is no reward for beating us, but losing to us makes other fans immediately defend their team by pretending the U.S. is "actually pretty good" or "has some good players."

Watching this still gives me chills.

Same here. Football died a little when Bergkamp ended his carreer. He is missed.

I can't wait for the tournament to start. Hopefully the US will make it far this time. This year I might try some betting on the world cup at least for the first couple of games. In the end it will either be Brazil, Spain or the Netherlands who take home the trophy. Bergkamp was amazing. What he did was art if you ask me.

I'd say the US gets past the group stage and lays an egg vs Germany or whoever we play next.

I know what you're saying. I'm both an Arsenal and Holland supporter.

Dunga may very well have Brazil organized but when they face a team that's just as defensively tenacious they'll suffer because the Brazilians are not built to defend for ninety minutes. I mean, can you really see Brazil out run a team like Denmark or Serbia?

I agree, you're right when you say that Brazil has no depth. This will definitely be a problem since they're expected to go all the way, so there will be injuries and cards along the way.

As to the issue of defending for 90 minutes, I'm not sure it's going to be such a big deal. I don't buy the idea that any team is not "built to defend". It's what teams do after going down a goal, or being stymied for the entire match and still scoring in the 92th minute, that makes the difference between a team that just shows up at the cup and one that wins it.
