Music to Smoke To...

So I've recently got a box of Cohiba Siglo Number 2's and a few bottles of decent scotch to enjoy with them and it suddenly struck me that I don't really know what to listen to when enjoying them!

I usually stick on a selection of Frank Sinatra's quieter songs, and if I'm feeling a bit more modern then Katie Melua and Robbie Williams' Swing collection (Yes, I am aware that I'll probably be lynched for that!)

So what do you consider a good smoking song?

For me it has to be laid back, with enough soul that you can picture the underground clubs filled with smoke and that je nais se quoi that is missing from life after that 60's.

Cigars are smoked so infrequently, the only soundtrack is the thoghts in my head when I do. Other types of social smoking can be quite different..

For jazz, Pharoah Sanders, Ornette Coleman, Charles Mingus or John Zorn. Sometimes I like to smoke with some electronic music as well, Klaus Schulze, Michael Stearns, Pete Namlook, Lustmord, etc... But I like avant-garde music.

Check out this Japanese electro-prog band called Cornelius. Especially their song "Smoke". So original, so cool. the tone on all the instruments is just perfect.

Goodnight and Goodluck soundtrack by Dianne Reeves. Wonderful smoky bar, 50's/60's vibe by a truly gifted artist.

This may be unconventional but Kool and the Gang during their 70's funk/soul phase released two kick ass smoking songs - Summer Madness and Winter Sadness. Winter sadness in particular is one of the smoothest, mellowest, chill out songs i have ever heard. Could listen to it all day.
