Fear of heights

For those of you who suffer from Acrophobia, do you feel uncomfortable even when looking at pictures or clips? Or does it happen only in the real life? For those of you who enjoy big heights: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oWVLzVhnYE0

Jesus Christ Almighty, I'm not overkeen on heights - my feet actually tingled watching that.

I could imagine being up there and feeling it slowly leaning further.....and......further until it started to topple.

Cheerful, huh?

Some of the clip made me a little uneasy. Most of it seemed like looking out of the window of a plane, though.

Heights and snakes are about the only things I have truly irrational fear of.

Did you read that it was recently closed to the public with only the vaguest explanation of why?

These are tough times for the Burj!

From the comments section: Why don't they have separate express elevators that go from floors 1 to 50-50 to 100 and 100 to 40 virgins?

Pretty cool. I'm not afraid of heights per se, but insecurity -- even at a low elevation -- can make me positively light-headed. Watching something like the Harold Lloyd dangle from the clock in Safety Last...well, I seriously can't watch it, even though I know exactly how it was done and that it was safe (they built a false building facade and clock on top of a skyscraper, so he was really hanging a couple of feet from the real building's roof).

To put the clip into a wider context, here is a vid showing the top of the spire he was on.

Good grief, it's high.

sweet jeez mother of god now I can clearly see the top where that guy had to climb, I'd be shitting my pants for sure. But watching the clip actually keeps me calm

I knew that thing was really tall, but actually seeing it....wow....

That gave me chills, hell 4 story fire escapes give me chills but I wouldn't pass up the oppurtunity to go all the way up.

I think it would be really awesome to take a cheap flash camcorder, glue a couple stabilizing fins to it, set it to record, and then huck it off the top of the building. Then you could go down, find the smashed camera, sift through it for your practically unscathed SD card, and become internet famous.

Great idea.

Put it in the comments section of the article I linked and someone will probably do it.

Extra points if a rich Dubai emir, hires one of those cheap Asian imported ( and out of work guys ) to carry the flash camcorder down

Thats an awesome idea for a blog in general - put a camcorder in various deadly situations for viewers' vicarious experience

You'd need to stabilize the camera in some way though, because it would twist and turn much faster than a falling human would (too little angular momentum.) Ideally you could attach the camera to a six foot pole with a weight at one end, so it would really be the view of a falling person... just because, why not, right?
