NYC hotel suggestion for a week in April/May

I'm going to be in New York for a week end of April/first of May. Want to be downtown for work/social stuff. Was thinking of the Bowery or Thompson LES. Any thoughts on these? I usually stay at the Soho Grand, but wanted to stay somewhere else this time. Don't want too much of scene every night in the lobby if possible. Thanks.

I'm staying at the Thomson LES in early May; I like Thomson hotels and I would generally recommend them. However, to be honest, unless you really love the LES or the East Village, why not stay elsewhere? At that price range, I would probably suggest The Greenwich Hotel in TriBeCa. Still downtown, but imo, a better location.

The Bowery is cool but rooms are very small (most NYC rooms are though)
Cooper Square is not bad and has rooms of every size so more flexible, I guess. New restaurant supposed to be great.
If you don't mind being a bit more uptown (I can't believe I'm sying this...), the Ace Hotel sounds like a very interesting place to stay. Restaurant (the Breslin) got great reviews from friends.
Thompson LES is a bit of a zoo IMO - I prefer 60 Thompson personally
THOR is also a nice option IMO

60 Thompson is nice. It is one of the quieter locations and has the nice rooftop bar. If you are there for more than 3 days try and get the deluxe queen. The extra room is very nice and you usually get better views. I'm going in May and was thinking about the Standard on the elevated line in the Meatpacking District. The rooms are small but the views are amazing. It may be a bit of a scene but it is nice that it is so new.

Thanks everyone. I'll take a look at Thompson 60. Thor looks kinda cool, too.
