Please suggest wines from the following years.

Ok, we are putting together a 65th birthday party for my mother, and plan to serve wines and spirits from important years in her life. I don't know anything, so please help. Some of the years are quite long ago, so they might not make good candidates. You can skip those. You can also skip wines that resemble suggestions for $100k shotguns.

1945, 1963, 1966, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1974, 1985, 1995.

Thanks. I don't need one from each, just some in general.

Is one of those years the year of your birth? 'cause that's kinda important too.

Should be about $200 if you can find this example. I do think this is one good way to get that age without dropping huge bank.

There's also a ton of 63 vintage ports I see.

Very nice idea! Is she an oenophile (?sp). When is the dinner? Manton might be up to speed by then....

How do you think a PX would be with a foie gras torchon? We already have something for after dinner.

She is a francophile. It is her only phile. Her friends are great wine lovers. It's only going to be 10 people, so at least we have some leeway.

Hmm too bad Cognac ages slowly, would have been good for 1945 (well not really actually due to some unfortunate events of the times I assume it wasn't a good year...). Get a d'Yquem for one of those years, it's french, well-known so no need to be a wino(phile) and highly drinkable (for a white wine). Goes well with the foie. Note: the Pedro Ximenez is a dessert wine though but it's Spanish, keep the french touch. I didn't know old bottles were that cheap

We have a 1945 Armagnac. Very good. Sat in some farmer's shed for like forty of the years. That bottle is what got us thinking to do this.
