Masters in Finance? - Page 2

Not to throw this off topic but I'm graduating this spring with a degree in finance and I'm already planning on grad school. I was thinking the MBA route or a Masters in Taxation. Any suggestions? Being a CFO down the road is my goal if that helps any.

It seems to me that the most common path to CFO is through accounting. Controllers and treasurers often get the CFO job. Don't know that taxation is as important as accounting in that context.

+1. Most CFO's that I know have accounting backgrounds.

masters in finance seems pretty pointless. most finance jobs these days will promote you to any level without a masters. in other words, you're better off starting off out of undergrad and just working, rather than taking extra time in school.

you tend to learn 10x as much usefull stuff on the job as you do in school.

CFA's not bad since you can do it while you work. i did it. it has some value, but its not a big deal. tons of middle office people get it...

EDIT: my perspective is wall street finance, may not apply to the CFO route. CFO is waaaay down the line for someone just out of school though. Focus on dominating whatever job you have at the moment....

I know Stanford offers finance for undergrad but I am not sure if it is an actual degree..

princeton offers Operations Research & Financial Engineering, and also offers a certificate in Finance, which is like a minor.

Most people that go into finance have degrees in economics. Most accounting is learned on the job/internship.

I actually started with an econ degree before ending up double majoring in finance.
