Am I going to get pwned gaming?

Last 2 games I played were Battlefield 2 and Counter Strike. My machine, when built several years ago, was a half-decent piece of equipment (Intel C2D 1.8Gig overclocked to 3.0Gig, 4Gig of 800Mhz RAM (Buffalo & GSkill), ATI Radeon HD 4650, Antec P180 case, fans up the wazoo, etc.).

I'm installing the new Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Beta now, and my puter seems a bit slow. Do I need to upgrade? If yes, what can I get for $400-500?

P.S. I have a 12M/3M pipe.

P.S.2. My Logitech MX518 mouse still rox!

I don't like playing with a game controller. My thumbs were born in the ice age.

I would try to just replace some parts. ATI just rolled out some new DX11 video cards, and if you like higher settings go for something solid like Radeon 5850. I'm assuming your motherboard can't do dual video cards. I don't think you need a new CPU, although there are some pretty awesome quad-core ones on the market right now at $100-200. Your motherboard is probably gonna limit your choices though.

If I want to go quad, I have to upgrade my mobo. I think I'll have to upgrade my vid card too.

Just installed the game. It's definitely sluggish at 1920x1080 in high resolution mode. I only got to play for about 1 minute before losing the connection to EA. Still haven't been able to reconnect.

And they're trying to get me to spend money for an full release version, when the beta isn't worth a shit?!?

OCZ 1333Mhz DDR3 4GB RAM:

Comes to about 511 without shipping/rebate/tax. You can go lower if you change the video card, or downgrade to a dual core Phenom II X2 (there's a slim chance you can unlock it into 4 cores, although I was only able to get mine to a stable 3 cores). I'm SURE there are better combinations out there if you spend more than a few minutes looking through parts.

That's assuming you want to go through all this trouble for just one game.

If you're over the age of 16, then yes you will get powned or pwned or pruned.

Your system should be fine at some sensible resolution like 1280x1024

If you really have to crank it up, you could stand to upgrade to one of the better performing $100 video cards out there for a pretty big boost.

Games weren't made for quad cores...its a waste and if you are already oc'd that much, you should be fine.
