Help for a rough cold? - Page 2

I usually don't resort to medicine for a cold. I just got rid of a cold last week. Here's what I usually do: 1.) Dress warm. I wore sweats, socks, longsleeve, another longsleeve, and a hoodie. 2.) Keep water intake up. I literally drank 2 gallons per day. 3.) Get those calories in (better if you eat spicy foods) 4.) Sleep (minimum 8 hours or more) 5.) Sweat it out with hot foods/hot water 6.) (extra) Take vitamins/fish oil pills Good luck. I usually get rid of colds in 2-3 days with the above steps. This last cold, however, took me a week (traveling to school in 20-degree weather didn't help).

Sounds like the cold that's been creeping around the dorms here. The cold itself knocks you asunder for a day or two, but the cough is epic.

For the cough part, avoid meds with a cough suppressant as that prolongs it. You wanna drink loads of water, steam your lungs and sinuses out (hot shower, sauna, etc), and eat the spiciest food you can stand. You'll cough like a six pack a day smoker with tuberculosis, but it'll clear the phlegm out fast and you'll feel way better.
