I was at a book signing and asked Ray Davies how long it took him to write that one "'Bout 20 minutes...a couple of hours to finish the lyrics".

Best live version

"Terry and Julie go over the river..."

Definitely a great song.

Not the greatest song ever, but Davies sings the beautiful melody with warmth and charm. And the song is VERY British.
Surprising how little it was actually played on the radio during its short tenure. People never forget it upon first hearing. One can honestly understand why people declared, "God Save the Kinks".
