Samuelsohn MTM vs Coppley MTM - Page 3

^ I believe either Paul Stuart or Brooks Brothers MTM uses Samuelsohn. Otherwise, there is Martin Greenfield in Brooklyn.

Paul Stuart yes, I believe BB used MG before but have moved to someone else. If I lived in NY I would definitely give Martin Greenfield a try.

I can't attest to the quality of Coppley, but I love my Samuelsohn's.  A great value for the money, they're hard to beat.

For some reason I thought Martin Greenfield didn't take one off customers directly (only did work for other companies), does he have a storefront or just the factory? How best to get in touch? Thx.

Just the factory. You can call and set up an appointment.

I only have one Coppley suit - an off-the-rack DB navy chalkstripe flannel that I purchased at a ridiculous discount ($400) last spring and wore for the first time this fall / winter season.  It's quite nice, and I have no real complaints - but it is not in the same league as my Samuelsohns.  Not precisely apples to apples, I do understand, but I'd recommend you go for the Samuelsohn.

RogerP, do you recommend Robert Jones? I walk past it every day, but have never really stopped to look around. I am likely in the market for a Samuelsohn MTM, and am trying to decide on where to go for it (e.g. Harry Rosen vs. Rego. vs. ?).

Also, $995 starting price for Samuelsohn MTM? I think this actually may be slightly lower than it was last year. When I asked about the Samuelsohn MTM program in the fall, I seem to recall that they started around $1050 for basic fabric and no options, and I think that included the trunk sale discount.

According to the Samuelsohn website, there's a trunk sale going on at the First Canadian Place Harry Rosen this week, so maybe I'll pop by and see what's what.

I absolutely recommend Robert Jones. I've purchased a few Samuelsohn MTM suits from them and one blazer.  Excellent service and a quality product.  That said, I'm sure you would do just fine at Harry's.  I just tend to prefer the small shop / more personalized atmosphere at RJ.  Plus I get to drool all over the Kiton suits and Edward Green shoes.  Metaphorically speaking, of course.

I'll probably check out the trunk show at First Canadian just because trunk shows are cool.

Thanks for the advice. I'll definately think about RJ. Sooner or later, I'm going to have to make up my mind though. I still have about eight months to my wedding, but I can easily see the time getting away from me if I don't start going forward with it.

Also, just a heads-up that the Samuelsohn trunk sale apparently doesn't start at the FCP Harry's until this weekend. However, they have all of their year-end suits/sportscoats on sale there this week. It's probably worth checking out, as it's pretty much the cheapest I think you can get from HR (assuming there's something in the right size that you like).  I actually bought a Samuelsohn sportscoat that I liked, as it was 50% off and I have been in need of one for the longest time.

Anyone know what the Samuelsohn trunk show pricing for MTM is in the U.S.  Trunk shows in my area over the next few weeks and curious if it's the $1,500 I was quoted previously or if there will be a trunk show discount.

^^^ I can't say for sure, but I'd be surprised if the starting price weren't closer to $1k.  You can get to $1500 quite easily if you add a vest or opt for upgraded fabric, but I doubt that's the basic two-piece price for the entry level cloth.  That's what it would be in Canada, anyway.

Stopped by FCP at lunch today and checked out the sale suits.  Some definite steals there - a few Samuelsohns at 50-60% off in my size.

Trunk show prices in Canada start at 1k. If you're making multiple purchases, you might want to consider grabbing a cheap flight to Toronto, Calgary or Montreal and save some cash. For example, if you're planning on getting 2 suits done, you can save up to $1k minus plane ticket price.
