I don't think there is an optimal length for a BD collar. It will vary from person to person, collar to collar, etc. There are just too many variable to account for if trying to determine an optimal length. Collars, buttoned or not, just seem to require a little back and forth with the maker, followed by a little trial and error.

The roll looks a little softer on the first one, which I think most of us in this thread agree is preferable. The second just seems a bit stiff for being fairly long. However, I don't care for the double-buttons on the first, but that's more a matter of personal taste.

Freddy V. is awesome. Will discuss OCBD with him. Thanks.

Funny this thread pops up. I went through a spasm of OCBD purchases not long ago and it seems they have evicted the rest of the shirts from the closet. And after 15 years of wearing them unbuttoned, I'm buttoning them again. Well, at least the BB ones.

Freddy is awesome. There's not many clothing makers left like him. He makes a high-quality, honest product without any of the fanfare. He's very knowledgeable and a real artisan.

I like the first one better, what's the collar band height and collar point length on that?

Wearing the same shirt today (Carl's Indian made OC fabric?)

Also, I think I "bumped" into you twice last week. Early morning, 8:30ish, 40th east?

The following two shirts are Brooks Brothers Slim Fit OCBD's. The left shirt is an older version that I picked up at ebay ($15!! in great condition). The right is brand new, picked up during BB's current sale. Both are sized by neck & sleeve length. I wear the left shirt casually and the right shirt with a SC and trousers for work. Unfortunately, the sleeves are too short on the ebay shirt so I wear them rolled for the summer. I like the way the slim fit shirts fit and I'm pleased with the collar roll. On sale, they are a pretty good value as well.

I couldn't find a shirt at BB with a texture like that on the left shirt below, nor could I find one that isn't non-iron. Does such a shirt exist at BB these days? Correct me if I'm wrong, but if I want an OCBD with the more textured, open weave, I'll have to look somewhere other than Brooks Bros. Best I can tell from Mercer's website and pics here at SF, they have the type of fabric that I'm after. I just wonder if BB offers something more like the left shirt below.

Thanks. That's a good point. The new one I bought is part of the supima collection but the old one isn't.

New one with finer weave:

Old one with coarser weave (not supima):
