How did I forget about Mercer. Don't have any yet, but have been eyeing them from quite a while. When I get around to it, I'll go with the Brooks/Press hybrid: unlined collar popover ocbd with the flap pocket. IMHO a four-button popover is just about right - one step from the coat front, but still a popover (tie covers the placket anyway).
