List of True Premium Denim versus Premium Priced Denim

Though I know it's a matter of opinion, I'd appreciate a list of true premium denim (high quality, japanese, selvedge, looms, etc) versus artificially hyped denim. For example, and I hope I am right here: Hype - True Religion, Seven For All Mankind Real - Paper Denim & Cloth, Nudies Here's a list I'd appreciate some help on 1921\t 575 Jeans\t 7 for all Mankind\t 7 for Great China Wall\t AG Jeans\t Chip and Pepper\t Corpus\t Earnest Sewn\t Edun\t Ever\t Genetic Denim\t Gilded Age\t Howe\t James Jeans\t LA Denim Atelier\t Levis\t Loomstate\t Notify Jeans\t Paper Denim & Cloth\t Prps\t Rogan\t Saddlelites Jeans\t Serfontaine\t Stitch's\t True Religion\t Union Jeans

I am not the best person for this but my understanding is that for most here, PDC is not really premium quality, at least not anymore. But I do own three pairs.

Really? What about the GTO 1 Years everyone talks about? I will move it to the Hype category if someone else concurs.

What are your thoughts on the other brands? Anything you can help with would be appreciated.

Quality used to be great, but I've heard they lowered the quality standard and also lowered the prices (which is fair, I'll give them that).

I just hope the washes will remain nice (they have offered a lot of really great washes - so natural) despite the decline in denim and construction quality.

The list of brands you have is mainly of "designer" denims*. They're known for their cut and distress, not for denim quality. To start of the real premium denim brands, you need to start with the Japanese, i.e. Sugar Cane, Studio D'Artisan, 45rpm, Pure Blue, Eternal, etc.,. *Perhaps the exception on the list is Rogan, who truely makes quality jeans even though the fabric isn't the best.

...

Sorry, what did you say? Was distracted...

Well, everything is hyped. But here are the (jeans from) companies from the list below that I like. Note that I specifically say jeans, because clothing is different matter altogether. For example, I wear lots of Nudie jeans, but think that their clothing really sucks, while I like some Edun clothes, but am not that impressed by their jeans.

Corpus
Earnest Sewn
Gilded Age (although really overpriced, imo)
Levis (big E and LVC)
Paper Denim & Cloth (back in the day, not the current styles)
Rogan (Really credit Rogan Gregory with some cool ideas, although I don't actually wear his jeans)

That's a narrow point of view. Cut and finishes are actually very important. All the jeans that you have listed are a specific niche of Japanese jeans, repros. You don't mention Neighborhood or BAPE, for instance. I'm not saying that repros don't have their place, but they are not the only game in town.

My understanding of the original question was about true "premium denim," meaning the quality of the fabric, and to a lesser extent, contruction. With few exceptions, most of the brands he listed consist of decent denim, decent construction, but mostly overhyped. Decent is okay for decent's sake, but these often are sold at a premium price.

DarkNWorn - Your understanding of my question is correct. I do appreciate all input and though I didn't word it perfectly, I was trying to seperate "designer/boutique" denim from jeans that actually was of higher quality.

What is am AmJack? What is repros? And sorry, Diesel is not on the list!

AmJack - American Jackass. Repro - reproduction of earlier Levi's and Lee jeans.
