Errrm.

Would you tell your boss that you polished off a fifth of gin last night and then hit the strip club? Sure you might want to tell all your friends about your crazy night, but you might not want your coworkers or family to know.

Why should my boss care if I am not at work? Besides here drinking with the boss is traditional.

I have no problem with FB, though WTF is with Farmville addiction? I played that game enough to get the largest farm and the most expensive shit then quit (took about 2 weeks at 15min a day). Some people are online playing that game all day.

Also to the second or so poster, 5-Year HS reunion? Why would you even have one of those in the first place? What can possibly change in 5 years that you would want to see a bunch of assholes you didnt keep in touch with, besides graduating from college?

I do that with my boss. Seriously.

I use FB everyday. Not necessarily updating statuses or anything but checking up on things. I keep in touch with a lot of people thru facebook, make plans for parties and stuff. Being a college student it helps as well. I've gotten lost flash drives and even an ipod back because of people finding me through facebook. I talk to my family overseas on a weekly basis(it's easier than texting/BBMing in most cases bc of the time difference). I have aunt's and uncles on FB but they're are on limited profiles. My pics/vids are private for most people. Overall it's definetely helped my social life and it's a really useful networking tool if you use it as one. If you're updating your status every hour with crap not so much

I can understand not wanting coworkers to know about your life out of work, but why worry about what women see? They arent going to be interested anymore if they find out you actually go out and do things??? Or OMG talk to other girls??

i was once told not to email something you wouldnt want everyone to read.

i think this advice is even more apt for facebook.

It's also an easy way to get digits -- "Gimme your number, I don't have Facebook." Works every time.

Good points. Especially this point about retaining the mystery of not seeing someone for several years- it's not often in the modern human environment that we get that deep sensation of returning to a former time... and seeing old friends and catching up is one of them. Elephants get it all the time on their migrations, and obviously our hominid capacity for it is much more profound, but nowadays we only get if we happen to smell a scent long forgotten or maybe happen on a childhood book we haven't seen in decades. ...But most important, I indeed don't want m'ladies crossing paths.

I consider the FB page a "persona" more than my true self. I only post what I am comfortable with everyone knowing. I find, however, that more and more I am getting comfortable with everyone knowing everything.

Ex animo,
