Very sketchy auction though!
"Trunk is in good condition , beautiful and rare piece
27 shoe keepers and top cabinet for all shoe care needs.
The photo is not the actual trunk being sold and no shoes or shoe care products are included.
This is a special order item, price new $20,000
I'm selling this trunk for $2900, delivery to be negotiated."
I wasn't even aware there was such a thing.

Does anyone know anything about these?

I found a few more examples of a similar design online, including an identical John Lobb one (that was made for Lobb by Hermes) that sold for $24,000 at Christies.
http://www.christies.com/LotFinder/lot_details.aspx?intObjectID=5434221

I really like the idea, and am wondering about making one for myself.

That is very sketchy. If you look closely, the pic is taken of a picture in a catalog or magazine. Although the sellers location is only about 15 miles from me... I should message him and ask to see it IRL before the auction ends..

True, but he acknowledges the fact in the auction text.

I'll admit it's a bit sketchy, but given how insanely buyer friendly ebay's polices are I doubt you'd get anything less than a full refund if it turned out to be fake or crap.

Still getting something like that for what 10% of what it fetched at auction...

Having said that it seems odd, is it supposed to be a trunk? or a piece of furniture? the Cristie's one doesn't look all that fabulously made, or durable enough to be a trunk.

I still think it'd be a fun project.

You know, I always thought a "Just Kopped" thread or "Stuff I think is cool but didn't post until now because I don't need you sons a bitches bidding it up" would be interesting for just this reason.

This thread is kind of in that spirit. However I like your title a lot more.

For all I know, it might have been that very same item. (There can't be too many of them around.)
