Manufacturing enough systems to meet the demand at launch isn't possible; if it was, it would happen. People love to bring up the, "It generates demand!" thing but I've never seen any real evidence of that with the companies that are accused of doing it (Nintendo, Apple, etc.). Hell, Nintendo, during the Wii's golden years, constantly cited shortages as the reason for lower than expected profits. Sony doesn't want people who came in with $400 leaving the store without a PS4. In addition to that, any lost PS4 sale this holiday is a potential XB1 sale.

That being said there is another HUGE issue no body thinks of. The first batches of xbox360s and iPhones were recalled and had a lot of issues (these are 2 examples that come to mind, could be many others). It is to your advantage to wait a little and avoid the hassle of having to get the items fixed.

Never buy the first batch/year of anything, that includes everything from phones to cars.

I wouldn't say that to be honest there's a reason why you see so many more xbox commercials they know that the PS4 is going to outsell them. Overall Xbox really can't compare to the PS4 you just get so much more not as a gaming console but as a product overall. Cost to play online is cheaper, built in blue ray player since that's the disc you use, faster, smaller and it came out earlier.

And to say never buy the first batch that is true for some things but Sony's playstation have always been rock solid. I had no issues with my PS3 and it was the first batch. And if anything if I were to get a playstation id get a first they always just seem to be better built.

meh. Kinect is wicked cool. I'm really excited to get my hands on a v2 sensor to drive a home automation system

XB1 really botched the launch from a PR standpoint. Contradicting answers from official Microsoft PR / poorly worded responses to hot button topics /etc.

Guys the console wars have been going on for ages. Sony killed it with ps2, botched ps3 release and lost market share to xbox for a bit and then caught up with 45% a few years back, now they learned their lesson and are doing better with ps4.

Sadly I cannot go into Atari, Nintendo, sega wars of the past right now because I am on a mobile phone but look into it guys console gaming industry is really interesting and shows how some companies with distinct competencies in areas other than gaming popped into gaming and were successful ie Msft and sony.

Your comments always come off as so naive, Brad. It seems to be all emotional with a very narrow minded perspective.

I really hate playing video games - always have.  They seem stuck in some netherworld somewhere between wide open fantasy, and doing something interesting for real.  If I want to buy into someone else's world, I'd rather watch a movie or read a book.
