I obsessed over small details like base stats, personality, oyaji skills and what not back in 3~5th gen. At the end of the day no matter how crappy a pokemon is, it is strong enough if you spend enough time.
Also there are some surprises when you play without external knowledge like for example
Warning: Spoiler!(Click to show)
Azumarill can 1 hit or 2 hit KO pretty much anything with Return because of its ability and prerequisite for evolution
I've been out of the loop for a while. Man I remember my elementary school outlawing pokemon cards so we had to hide them in books/magazines behind the little card you stamped when you checked them out and when we would trade them we'd say check out this certain book....serious stuff haha. I still remember my mom ripping up my hologram alakazam because some kid on the news got stabbed or something. Then 007 Goldeneye came out and I forgot all about it
I only have the faintest idea what Pokemon is. Something about fighting monsters controlled by kids (maybe). I feel like I must have missed a critical event in most people's childhoods that bestowed them with this knowledge.
Pokemon is about fatherless children going out into the world and manifesting that loss by turning cute, cuddly, and occasionally horrific and soul-stealing monsters into battle-hardened killers, and then using them to beat up everyone you can find and steal all their money.
