Are you in any way related to this guy?

hoozah, I'm excited for the concrete pattern one, just worried sizing is going to be wonky. I'm probably a III and not sure how they'll look oversized.

The color and quality of the leather is almost identical to the $50 H&M x Margiela bag that I got.
It feels like imitation leather, very hard and stiff. The lining of the bag is just plain cream cotton like muslin.

This is the H&M x Margiela bag in comparison

Beams+, though it has been marketed aggressively in the US, is just a Japanese high street brand. It's essentially a Zara or a Topman (which is sold in boutiques here), and honestly, the level of make is generally lower than that of J Crew, which is, for the price level, actually quite good (you can argue about the design, but that's something else altogether). The prices are high because of very high landing costs and because of the Yen.

There is some great stuff made in Japan, but there is also a lot of crap.

Quite right. Their collaborative products, like the J Crew collabs, tend to be more interesting than their standard lines. Having lived in Japan (and I'll be back again for a year from June), I always chuckle a bit at how excited westerners get about pretty ordinary Japanese brands that, were they labeled 'Zara' or 'H&M' or 'Topman', they wouldn't even look twice at.

what are some other examples?
