i know. i thought fummas comment was retarded ... the brands he mentioned are all fairly big. if a designer/label has boutiques in multiple countries is usually a fairly BIG indicator of wealth and popularity.

a big name designer without a huge trawl of lines (i.e. Raf at Jil circa 2006) might get paid about $250K Euro/year for a job like that. It's not pauper money, but at that level they're not in it for the money either, you can tell by the numbers. Obviously, Raf has other sources of income as well now, and can afford to bask in wall to wall art.... but many of them just stick with that one paycheck. It's a practical art. It could be worse, they could be getting chef money....

He's got a lot in his art. I don't think he spent crazy baller status money for the flat though, it's rather small. Some of the Japanese designers are kinda flashy, they have multiple sports cars they drive around and shit, like BMW Z8's and stuff. Horikawa from Julius has a black BMW Z4. Kind of weird to place him in that kind of car. Just depends on how they get paid and who is boss I guess.

i have no idea what a designer's annual salary is based on but i would think it a lot of it would be based on the back end, but i may be wrong. regardless, i was talking about this comment about none of the brands being "big business" and what not. they are major fashion labels! if thats not "big" i dont know what is. are they rl? fuck no ... but then again they dont design for the masses.

Monsato is big business (~200 on the Fortune 500); Ralph Lauren is big clothing business (~450 on the Fortune 500). I can't imagine any of the houses you are talking about being a "big business".
