Stuff your dad or trusted older male taught you

I was strolling down the street the other day when I passed a father and son (at least they appeared to be related), the father had his arm around his son's shoulders and was speaking passionately while the young man listened intently. The main tidbit of information I heard was when the father exclaimed to the son "dress for the job that you want", and as I continued to pass, I smiled because I realized this man was imparting wisdom from his experience to this young man, it was touching.

It made me think about the men who have had an influence on my life and what I learned from them.
A man named Stuart Ross taught me the value and power of passion, thank you Ross.

What did your father/older brother/ trusted older male teach you?

Numerous trusted older people (former bosses, parents, teachers, etc) all told me:

"if you get a college degree, you'll never have to worry"

I was also told the same thing from numerous people regarding the college degree, I've been realizing more and more that it isn't the paper that will make things happen, it's you.

On a serious note, my dad once told me when I started my first serious relationship that in order to respect your SO, you have to respect yourself.
