Vacation in Napa/Sonoma valleys

I'll be on vacation out in the Sonoma/Napa valley area for several days at the end of April. Any recommendations about towns and places to stay? At the moment I think I'm leaning toward a couple hotels/BBs in Healdsburg, CA but would appreciate any input and suggestions.

Several people here have stayed at Hotel Healdsburg, which is very nice. costly, but you're on vacation, right? Besides, you can't expect to come to Wine Country and not spend a good chunk of change.
How long are you staying? If you're only here for a few days, I'd focus entirely on Sonoma County and stay in Healdsburg, or focus entirely on Napa Valley and stay somewhere like Yountville or Napa. You'd be too rushed to really enjoy anything trying to cover both Sonoma and Napa if you're only here for a few days.

Of course, dining is incredible. French Laundry, Cyrus, Redd, Farmhouse Inn, and the list goes on and on. Also really great mid-level food as well.

We're going to be in the area for 4 days. I went to college out there about 10 years ago and I still have a good feel for the geography of the region. But that was as a very poor undergrad so I knew where the cheap places to go for wine/beer/food but like you said, this is going to be a vacation so I want to find a good place to stay and eat well. I definitely like the idea of staying in healdsburg and focusing on the surrounding areas for some golf, wine, good food and the scenery. Cyrus is definitely on the list of places to eat. Hotel Healdsburg looks nice but a bit contemporary for what we're looking for so we're leaning for a nice B&B just outside of town. Thanks for the input.

I think as far as B&B type stuff goes, Madrona Manor is considered the best, and definitely the most expensive. Duchamp is also really nice, and directly behind Cyrus. So while it's far enough outside the center of town to not be loud and busy, it's just a block and a half from the square and the buildings look really nice, although I've never been inside. Bella Villa Messina also gets pretty rave reviews for a B&B. Then there are a lot of really small places, like Haydon Street Inn, Grapeleaf Inn, and Calderwood Inn that look nice but I don't have any clue if they actually are. I drive by the Camelia Inn on my way to work everyday and can say that it is absolutely beautiful.

Healdsburg is alright but it is on the far northern edge of Sonoma. If you are going to drive that far I might consider going all the way to Mendocino or Andersen Valley.

If you want to stay closer I might try the coast around Tomales bay. Google "Inverness," this is a very, very pretty area and there are actually a few wineries around. Not sure how stuck on the whole winery experience you are.
Also check out B&B's in Sebastopol or even Cazadero for something off the beaten track but still close enough for the whole wine/dine/valley thing.
Lastly if you like the ocean take a look at Jenner, it's a nothing town but very pretty and might be a nice relaxing place to end up.
