A lounge suit is an ordinary suit—what you might call a business suit—with a nice shirt and tie. You are not expected to wear a tuxedo or morning coat.

I was always under the impression that a lounge suit is slightly more casual than that.

For example a white shirt, open collar (no tie) with a matching jacket and trousers probably a lighter colour for semi-formal occasions.

Although. I would say if it is a wedding darker suit with a tie might well be in order.

Some years ago I received a similarly worded invitation and felt the need to ask my mother because I wasn't sure. She told me it was the suit that men wore socially (rather than for work) when they went out for dinner/drinks/show etc...in the days when men dressed smartly.
Do your grandparents have any Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Junior, Max Bygraves etc LPs hanging around? That is what you are looking for.

That's right, a lounge suit is just what they call a suit in Britain. There is no implication that you are supposed to wear a casual suit, though. I'd wear navy blue.

This is technically correct, but the fact that so many people don't know this these days creates an interesting dilemma. Do you dress according to what the invite says, or according to what many people will think that it says? I think you go with what the invite says, and would wear a regular business suit, but I would not be surprised if a lot of people are wearing sport jackets, go without a tie, or wear something they would wear to a lounge act.

Thanks for all the advice. Did googled and wikied but still pretty vague on exactly what constitutes a lounge suit.

I guess I would prob wear my business suit w/o tie. Wearing with tie would be formal wear. I guess the groom chose lounge suit for a more relaxed setting.

"Lounge suit" has become "business suit" in today's world.

If you go without a tie, bring one along just in case because traditionally "lounge suit" has meant a suit and tie. You may be better off wearing a tie and then taking it off if it seems too formal.
