So could anyone give me a vague idea of how much your jacket size might increase after a modest to medium (ie non-steroidal) muscle gain? I'm at a tight 40/loose-ish, but comfortable, 42 right now; am about to start lifting again for the first time in years. Would jumping up to a 44 over a year sound extreme, or plausible? (If so, I really need to quit buying medium shirts/jackets).

not much at all. I actually like my jackets to be tight fitted. I wear a medium in jcrew and have 44 inch chest.

Speaking of fitted, how about fitted dress shirts? I know there are a variety of slimmer shirts out there from BoO, Epaulet etc, but I really dont know which ones have any taper to them. BoO for example look slim but still straight up and down. Zara has been the closest but I dont care for many of their patterns. Any ideas?

I find epaulet fits me good. BoO is not tuckable on me. haven't tried gitman yet. .

Have you checked JCrew? I sized down one in their linen shirt for a tighter fit.
