How does this outfit look? The chinos are Dockers Alpha Khakis in Copen Blue and the sneakers are white Jack Purcells.

Also, forgive me for cross posting from a previous thread, but which of these sneakers look the best in white?

1 - Jack Purcell - White/White

2 - Tretorn Nylite Canvas - White/Peacoat Navy 2

3 - Vans Authentic - True White

The black isn't going to look great with the dark denim, but will be fine with faded denim.  I would say that boots are easier to wear than shoes with jeans - sidezips or sleek laceups work well.  NDC, moma, Varvatos, Paul Smith can all be found in black for under $250 and are pretty nice.  If you want to spend more than that you have a ton of options.

Any specific suggestions?

Just go to yoox, look up the brands mentioned, and pick one you like. It was good advice, but he's not going to dress you.

Not to push you guys too far, I'm thankful of the help given. But are there "top sellers" or "standard" shoes or boots for this purpose? This isn't a very unique look on my part.

I checked out yoox with that search and they had 2 pairs of black boots that looked wearable but were out of my price range. Thanks again for the help.

Might be moving to Boston. brrr. I can handle 100 degrees F and100% humidity, but coldness is just awful. This last Winter, the coldest day where I live was 52 degrees F.

well we didn't actually get a winter up here this year plus its warming up anyway..you certainly won't need a heavy coat for at least six months, probably seven so take your time

It's not sale season, so if you can't wait you might have to pay more. I would check out Nordstrom Rack or wait til June or so when things will be cheaper.

Sorry, I'm getting a little agitated with this advice. I'm looking over the internet for black boots and they are few and far between among the other choices. For instance, here is asos' website with all of their boots
http://us.asos.com/Men-Shoes-Boots-...cid=5774#parentID=-1&pge=0&pgeSize=-1&sort=-1

I regularly see people wearing black shoes with jeans and very rarely see boots. What am I missing here?

I have a pair of wolverine 1000's that I wear, but I'm looking for a pair of black shoes as well. My guess is oxfords or bluchers. I was hoping there was some "standard" brand or shoe to look at so I don't have to do too much shopping.

Here on SF, the "standard" brand of dress shoes is Allen Edmonds. Good quality for the price.

But I agree that brown would be better with dark jeans.

Too lazy to multiquote so:

Every forum in the world basically has 2 ways of editing signatures: either click your name in the top right, or there's a user CP button. Click your name in the top right and go from there.

There's not really a standard dress shoe here... not even one standard per country of make really - Alden, C&J, John Lobb, Vass, etc.

For fit pics of "boots with jeans/button up"... you could check almost any thread. Epaulet thread, Alden thread, WAYWT, etc... depends if you're going more MMM or workwear or what with your boots.

What is it?

Also, any good fit pics of boots with jeans/button up?

If you had asked "what is a good brand of dress shoes that isn't too expensive that I can buy without having to think about" over in the MC forum (where the natives know lots about "dress shoes"), most knowledgable people would have said "Allen Edmonds.". They have pretty sturdy soles and a solid construction, and can be had on EBay (slightly used) for around $100, if you look around a little. AE has so many models and styles that you're sure to find something that fits you. I myself don't like them, because the uppers crease like crazy on certain models, and because they look very blobby. I have found other labels of shoes, at around the same price point, that I like better (pm me if you want more info), but I recommended AEs just because that's the general advice for dress shoe newbs. Just trying to condense some SF MC wisdom for you.
