Thanks, man. I was just gonna use a wet wipe to wipe them down, but figured some more input would be nice. didn't know about the toothbrush thing, thanks again.

Any leather jacket should look good, except for leather blazers and trenchcoats.

Oh jeez. oxyclean is great but I don't think I'd want to use it on leather. What happened?

Is flaking of the leather normal? Brand new KVA's worn only once...

I sometimes think I should stay away from expensive things. The more it costs the more neurotic I get. Thanks.

I've been completely redoing my wardrobe and need some help with shoe purchases. I started this whole endeavor by purchasing some 'premium' sneakers (MMM Gat's). I allready have a few beater sneakers/casual shoes, one pair of Allen Edmonds dress shoes (never wear because I don't wear suits), and a pair of suede Yuketen oxfords.

Now, I'm wondering whether my next purchase should be a second pair of sneakers (CP's or Lanvin), a pair of casual leather dress shoes (Alden, etc), or some casual boots. I work in a very casual workplace (aka most people wear jeans and tshirts) so I'm not restricted by that.

Secondly, in terms of casual leather dress shoes or casual boots, what are specific brands and models do you suggest. I've read a lot on this site where people suggest color 8 longwings or shell chukkas from Alden but no one ever seems to have them in stock for my size (shoe mart, leffott, etc).

My budget is less than ~$450 for sneakers and less than ~$800 for leather shoes/boots.

Thanks, I'm sure this is a lot easier decision than I'm making it out to be but I can't choose.

If it's your first pair of dress shoes - I might avoid shell. It is an acquired taste for several reasons. First - it is expensive (with your budget you could get a good pair shoes and a good pair of boots in calf). Second, it wears hot - if you have not worn before you may not enjoy this. Third, it is a little more fussy to care for than calf (just search SF for shell care and see the number of opinions on the "right" way to polish them). I've got nothing against shell and agree that they are a nice addition to a shoe collection. Would just not suggest as a first good pair.

You could get a nice pair of Alden shoes and 1000k boots for your budget and look better than most.

thats a pretty broad selection, should you buy dress shoes (which you said yourself you never wear), sneakers, or boots?

Are you looking to buy these because SF says you should, or do you legitimately feel a need for all of them? Maybe hold off on purchasing until you feel a hole in your wardrobe in one of these places, and then fill it accordingly.

I'm in kind of the same boat as you actually.   I started my nice shoe kick with a couple of premium sneakers, and added a few nice, but not show-stopping other shoes along the way (some fairly mediocre black Chelseas which I never wear, some grey glued rubber-soled wingtips which are dissatisfying compared to the "real" thing.) I'm off the sneakers though, because after I got my white CP mids from a seller here, I am still admiring other CPs and CP knockoffs, but no longer feel like they are pulling me that hard: it's been expressed here before that getting either the whites or the blacks spoils you for others because of their staple ability.

Myself, I've been looking for either a plain cap-toe rough oxford or suede (perhaps chromexcel) longwing brogue. ( I want a nice looking shoe that won't freak everyone out where I work/study because of the shiny leatherness; wearing the Strands I have, I get that "ooh, dressed up" comment a little too often for me.)  The thought for the first option is trying to adopt the first dribblings of MMM's aesthetic in my wardrobe, which I lust after but really can't afford.  The thought for the second option is I'd like a smart shoe I could go barefoot with, a la this awesome fit from El Argentino.  So, I'm thinking maybe AE Neumoks, some sort of Grenson or Trickers collab (if it fits, you might want to cop this shoe), and that very particular Alden longwing as working for me; perhaps that gives you a few ideas for yourself?

I will get a tailor to edit my straight and bootcut jeans, thanks for the tip.

As i have four pairs of chinos (stone, navy, charcoal gray and khaki) all straight / regular cut, would it be advised to tailor the chinos in the same way you recommended for my jeans ^^^

i would be wearing dark brown chukka boots or boat shoes with the chinos

How long are you going to stay at your workplace? If you're a college student like me and workplace is just temporarily, then maybe invest in another pair of shoes since you might need it in the future. If you plan on staying at the same workplace for a while, it's up to you.

If you get chukkas, I'd recommend a suede pair.

Kent Wang has one which i think is good for you: http://www.kentwang.com/shoes/benchgrade-chukka-boot.html#

It can be worn with a suit or just casually so it's versatile.

Anyone knowledgeble with regards to New Balance sizing?

I am looking at a pair of NB 710s, but can't find any sizing info. I'm normally a 10-10.5 depending on the brand, but i wear an 11 in the NB 574 due to the length on a 10.5 being too short.

Does anyone know where I can get cheap dust bags for shoes? Even better if I could get a separate bag for each shoe. I'm not looking for some $60 church's labelled bags, and "shoe dust bag" doesn't even need to be the intended purpose. Just small, cloth, pull string bags for traveling. Thanks in advance.
