1) I need a winter coat - thinking something in between casual and formal like a peacoat. Looking to spend under $1000 (preferably less, but I want it to last years) and I'm in NYC. Brands or store recommendations? I'm open to buying online as well.

2) I need several pairs of trousers, ranging from business casual to casual. Looking to get good quality that will last a few years, priced <$200/pair. Fit is difficult - I'm a 35x33 and fat in kind of a funny way where I need a fairly low rise in the front but a larger rise in back. Incotex dress pants fit me well, as do my LVC 1947 501s (although I shrunk them).

3) I've done a lot of research on nicer raw denim brands but want to try some stuff on - good denim stores in NYC?

can't say antyhing for 1 and 2, but you can check out self edge or blue in green. there is also an apc store.

Are there any books or guides out there on how to tailor things like shirts, pants, and sportcoats/blazers?  I am thinking of doing some experiments with my sewing machine on thrift store stuff.

How should I make the crease near the break on my pants stay?

1) Maybe you can get a TOJ peacoat.

2) Check out Epaulet. They have a thread on here.

I was wondering if you could help me out. I am looking for Dark wash jeans to go with these shoes I recently bought: http://www.jonesbootmaker.com/main/details/Welted/02031040T40/ASHBY_Tan

Opinions on those while we're at it? The plan is to wear them for dates/nice bars for a drink etc. I think Japanese denim looks pretty smart in dark washes, more so than other jeans. However, I know nothing of it, as I have never owned a pair. I have had 4 pairs of Nudie, Tight Long John and Thin Finn. Think it's time for thicker denim. From what i've gathered, shrinking may be involved with heavy denim? And you don't buy your actual size sometimes? For a price range I think £150 is about the absolute limit, could I get a pair for that sort of money? I live in the UK. I'm looking for slim/skinny. If Japanese isn't the way forward, please let me know.

Links would be appreciated, brands, websites to check out. Thought I may get a pair while the sales are on. I don't mean to be ignorant, I'm aware that there may be a better place to put this post within the forum, but as I'm new I don't quite know my way around yet, forgive me! For the record, I'm 21, 5' 10" and have slimish legs.

Thanks for any advice in advance smile.gif

Maybe ask in the I have a jean thread as they know of the denim more. You can maybe check out RRL. I like their slim fit jeans. The Uniqlo Made in Japan slim straight are also pretty good. Uniqlo has a UK website but I'm not sure on RRL. There's also APC but I'm not sure on the thickness.

Has anyone tried the WALLACE & BARNES SLIM SELVEDGE JEAN IN WHITE OAK CONE DENIM® WITH RINSE WASH from J Crew?At $198 its not cheap. However, J Crew frequently has 30% off sales. The denim is made in the USA with Cone denim. They look sharp too...

Please could someone recommend some brands for me (must be available in the UK)?
Hoping someone has been in the same boat and has found a solution!

Hey Hennree. I am 6' and 155 lbs. so I can relate to your struggle. Tall and skinny guys have difficulties because clothing is never quite long enough.  But when you achieve that length the extra width is typically too much.

I have two suggestions for you. My first is to stick to brands that have slim sizes.  For example, American Apparel has awesome t-shirts for slim men.  You just have to find what brands work and with what types of apparel:  RL Rugby (for Oxford BDs), Express (Jeans/MX1 Dress Shirts - beware of quality though), Ralph Lauren Sim Fit (for anything), H&M (chinos, sweaters, linen dress shirts), Uniqlo (for anything), etc. Stay away from sizes that say "classic fit" and don't be afraid to take a shirt to the tailor. It costs me about $15 to get a shirt tailored here in NY and my tailor is awesome.

My second suggestion would be to buy custom fitted shirts directly.  This is your best option since the tailor can never typically make a shirt completely perfect and standardized sizes even at slim retailers will always be too snug or too loose in some areas.  Custom fit on the other hand is based on your dimensions which is indeed perfect.  I am an intern for Vastrm which is a new affiliate to SF.  If you are interested in custom fit and you like polos you should definitely check us out.

Good luck!

Any body know about the quality of BLK DNM jeans?  I've heard good things about fit being spot on.

I have two more questions. I've read the tailor thread and I've read through a ton on cleaners, but I'm still worried. Where do you get your stuff tailored and shirts hand pressed in NYC (I'm in UES).

How does the Samurai S710xx fit compared to APC Petite Standard? I am about 5'10 a little less than 140 lbs and wear 27 in APC PS. I would like to know if a 28 in the Samurais would work for me depending on how they stretch since I have a relatively thin build, or would I be better off getting size 29?

Hello gents, I'm after some wool socks of medium thickness, preferably something made in England or Italy. Any recommendations?

For those that have had items shipped from Yoox's warehouse in Italy to the US: how long did it take for you to get tracking info from the time of purchase?
