Can anyone provide suggestions for a quality sweater in the $50 - $200 range, preferably in gray?

I need a sweater or two. Since I've started updating my wardrobe, I kinda completely neglected sweaters, and all I have are 2 Jcrew slim fit navy sweater. They are nice and decent quality, but I need one or two more in other colors, especially since winter will be here soon in Colorado.

It needs to be something which is slim fitting and can be worn over a dress shirt, and often with a tie and some nice dress shoes. It's my favorite look, so I often dress that way and need sweaters that complement that look.

Prefer < $200, though < $100 would be even better.

EDIT: I know Wolf vs Goat is releasing a lavender striped sweater soon ($200ish) so I may be holding out for that also.

Get some cashmere v neck on sale...difficult to justify premium pricing for a basic sweater unless it's for materials, IMO.

No pics but I would think an Alpha khaki might work. I wear them with my Clark's desert boots and enjoy the look. Might want to clarify what engineer's boots are. I'm a mechanical engineer and as far as I know we don't have a set boot.

No environment in Austin is too conservative for those. I think they are a bit pointy, but not beyond the pale.

Most likely they're inappropriate in a conservative work environment, but I'm unsure how they look for casual wear with slacks and denim?

I rain soaked my raw denim at 1st month of wear and to my noobness, i dried it up with a hair dryer while I'm wearing it. Does this ruined the denim? or will this affect the fading characteristic or process?

No, you're fine. Just wear them.

I think you would get more use out of a solid sweater. If you are looking woolens I've been reading good things about Pringle and John Smedley and the like.

Thanks! Those Pringle of Scotland sweaters look amazing, and price point is more than fine if it's good quality.

Turns out that both of the Jcrew slim fit sweaters I mentioned as "decent quality" actually have several holes in them after wearing each for 3 to 5 wears. I hadn't worn either for a while and just noticed it when I decided to wear one today....Utter garbage is more like it.

Umm... moth holes?

Just slight tears in the merino wool. Looks like the stitching just "didn't hold". I guess it could have been moth holes, and I do live in a old townhome, so it could be possible. But then again, these are the only two sweaters I've had issues with (that I know of) and haven't had a similar issues with other clothing. I also didn't have them store in a proper way, but there are only two small holes.

Some pics of the defects:

EDIT: After doing some research, it kinda does look like a moth hole. Damn, now both my "decent" sweaters are gone. Need to replace soon. If anyone has suggestions on $50 - $150 range, let me know.
