I guess if I read more than 5 or 6 threads on this forum I would have had a better idea what you were talking about. I probably should poke around more, that thread is one that would have caught my interest.

B, well, you certainly spelled that out quite clearly. despite my being an asshole, i will not quote you.

that being said, i dont really feel its my place to give an opinion on that matter other than to say 3 things.

1. i hope you dont leave, or monty for that matter, or any other long standing useful posters. i recognize the issue that you face, but it would nice if somehow the conglomerate of quality, cheddar infused posters, could possibly bang some things out with the mods to clear some of these issues up. not just the one particular to the bike thread, but the overlying issue as a whole.

2. if i understand correctly, the reason mods can read an edited post, and that is only when edited after 10 minutes btw, is so when some poster calls someone a cockface, or uses some type of beyond the pale language, he can not simply edit it and say, "DID NOT!" the mods can read the posts in its original state, and deal with it. as to PMs, considering they can be reported, presumably they can be read. i would assume the management does not snoop across the PMs unless one is reported.

3. i never saw what you posted previously about why you edited past posts, and despite my undeniable curiosity, i think the fact remains, that a posters posts, are indeed their own. and they are free to remove them for any reason they see fit.

Mark (emptym) moved the thread out of Men's Clothing because it was not about men's clothing, and for no other reason.

Plenty of people like to talk about bicycles, cars, etc... , and many of them do so in the Fine Living section. That section has existed for several years, before F. Corbera ever joined the forum. It was actually a section that we added back in 2005 (or 2006? It's been so long ago now), when j and I reorganized the forum to make it more navigable. We removed the thread because Monty deleted his original post, and because you deleted your posts, which makes the thread rather unreadable.

I apologize to all the other posters on that thread whose posts are not in limbo. Mark has contacted Monty asking if it would be alright if we reinstated his previous posts. If he chooses to not do that, we will make a new thread, but one without Monty or F. Corbera's posts. That would clearly not be the ideal solution, but at least some content would be preserved.

I looked briefly at all the posts, deleted and otherwise, after Mark told me about some issues, and I found nothing personal or non-archival about them. Obviously, F. Corbera's opinon differs. While we have the option of reading old posts, we only do the former when we investigate complaints, to see whether a poster edited out a racist slur or porn in order to avoid censure.

We do not ever read PMs. In addition to being against our policies, we've made it technically difficult to do, even for administrators. The only reason we'd ever "break into the vault", so to speak, would be at the behest of authorities investigating criminal activity, and have a warrant. I think that that is pretty reasonable.

I hope that clears things up.

I missed that, obviously. Often I go into threads and see the merkuring of your posts. And it makes me sad because I think I missed something that could have been valuable, interesting, or at least not the other 99% of shit that I read on here. And I'm happy to see you exhibit something other than snark for once.

Recently, I had some posts changed on my behalf without me knowing about them, until someone pointed them out to me. They originally contained foul language, like "your clothing fucking sucks" or something like that. You know, things you've read 10,000 times on this site in one form or another. That was changed to "I don't like your clothes" or something like that. It lost all intensity and meaning, really, and made me look like a fucking twat. I left it as is, however.

It's certainly left a clear message that this forum and website is headed to the toilet.

And let's not mention the clear and complete lack of any moderation of the MC WAYWT thread over the last few days of cape and other such crap discussions that were clearly not contributing ANYTHING of value to MC or this site.

so what is wrong with putting the bespoke bicycles thread in fine living anyway? fine living has more quality threads and posters hanging out than mc nowadays anyway.

It's just a matter of personal preference. We're working it out.

anyway, I just need to put this out... mark (emptym) is a dear friend and he expressed his concern in private about what happened even before the thread got squirreled, without going any further than what we discussed, I can just say that he is genuinely sad that montesquieu deleted his posts which he says was awesome. this mod job's a thankless one, and I admire the latest batch of mods for accepting the job. emptym saw it fit as a mod to put a thread about bespoke bicycles in the fine living thread, and I agree with him- friend or no friend, and as a mod he did just that not because he likes to use his superific mod powers but because he saw it as the right thing to do. ( before reading the whole thread I wondered why it wasn't just transferred to the old bicycle thread, but after seeing the quoted pics, I understood why it can't be so and why it should be placed in fine living) it is unfortunate that montesqueiu took the move as something different from what emptym intended it to be. now, would it be better if the mod informed the op that his thread is gonna be moved? sure it might, but fact is threads have been moved by mods like what just happened before and no one seemed to mind at least from what I know. I sincerely hope you guys work this out.
