These people are nuts. There really has to be some psychological explanation for putting that much effort into sort of annoying anonymous people on an web forum.

probably very young and with nothing but time on their hands, and a weird proclivity for stirring up trouble on line. also nuts, like you said.

They have a name for people like this. Recidivist. Repeat offender. Not a pretty name, is it? Personally, I'd like to see these folks ferreted out earlier. With all the effort to create interesting content to draw people to the site, seems counterproductive to allow low-grade trolls to dilute the discussion with banality. At least better-quality trolls like Vaclav add entertainment value.

I don't think either of those people post simply to annoy others. Same goes for iroh. Imo some people are just weirder than we think. Once they get some pushback on their weirdness, they may post some things to annoy people. But I think they just start by being weird. Didn't any of you go to high school? (This is not to say that there aren't other, true trolls who post simply to irritate.)

The shirt button guy may be wright, but doesn't have matching ips or cookies.

Ya, when I find these people, I ban them immediately. I'm slow to ban someone, but once they're banned, I don't like to let them back. A certain dude living in Idaho tends ban quicker than I, but let them back quicker too. In fact, he just let another person I'd banned back into the playpen...

Serious question for serious moderators:

What is the official stance on having multiple accounts? Most forums, AFAIK, do not allow multiple accounts per user. What about SF? I feel like some of the more established members certainly have sock/puppet accounts that are perhaps even well known but they are allowed to keep using them.

So, what's the verdict?

(and no, I do not have other accounts)

Afaik, the only socks that've been allowed were/are the Baggins guy and RJbearmanpig and F. Corbera, all of which were made before my time. There may be others. But I think people here are often too quick call, "Sock!"

You're just saying that hoping we won't out you as a sock.

i feel, if the user has a strong track record, and a non malicious/stupid reason for creating a duplicate account, and it is run by the mods, then i dont see why it should be an issue. but thats just my opinion.

Knowing the identity of Grandmaster Baggins is my "great white whale".
I am awaiting a comeback of McLovin.
