I don't see any of the behind-the-scenes stuff that the mods do so I suppose I can't continue to argue that thumb comments are worth whatever downsides there were, but certainly from the casual user's standpoint, I didn't see such a glaring issue. I'll take your word for it that it was there, but I still think it's a shame that the solution that was chosen was to dump the whole system entirely.

 

I do remember not having thumbs at all, which is why I feel like this is a step backwards.

what are the chances now of upping, or removing entirely, the limit of thumbs per user per day. i have seen a couple people already post along the lines of,

"i wanted to "like" this post, but i am over my limit for the day."

indeed you did. it was a well thought out post, with some valid points. still, from the mods point of view, i can understand how unless a realistic and improved system is suggested, we will continue to have no thumb comments.

How much did this SF platform cost? Like $30k or more? This stuff could be built into any free forum software by any decent developer for a few hundred bucks, or hell, nothing!

I'm not saying that you should switch platforms, but Huddler is screwing you over on some stuff, seriously. The whole solution feels hacked together. Now we've got this import images thing with a notification EVERY DAMN TIME I want to upload an image, no, it's not offensive, and even if it was this thing wouldn't stop me.

I was originally approving of the thumb comments being removed, but SVB convinced me it's done a lot of good. And now people are making useless posts in threads all the time. I was wrong about it.

Have you checked out Gawker's system? I don't think it's perfect either, but you can spawn off new threads of discussion from each post. Similar to giving a thumbs comment response but with the ability to build a discussion around it and you could moderate it.

I'm glad the thumbs comments are gone. I haven't lurked in the SWD forums for months, but that's one of the reasons I stopped posting there - it was precisely because of the incessant trolling in the thumbs remarks. It was beyond 3rd gradeish, and that so many can willfully support it and promote its continued use says something right there.
