It's a good feeling to know that I knew what happened before knowing what happened.

Suggestion:

1. All mods hands off for a week with the exception of spaminating obv spam. Do this for a period undisclosed to members (to avoid Bhowie-esque blackouts during said period) and circle back and see if things were really that bad.
Or,
2. disclose that period and then circle back and separate the wheat from the chaff.

See what I mean?

Bonus Bris story:

I got hired at the company I now work for several years ago partly because senior mgmt thought that in order to increase productivity in my dept they needed to hire more staff. They added 4 more to a staff of 3 taking the head count to 7 exclusive of the manager. I saw the real problem early on but was a temp at the time so my words had little weight to them. So what did I do? I employed all of the skill I'd acquired in this field and worked diligently producing 2-3 times as much as any other 2 team members combined. And, when it came down to it, my words had much more weight so I could lay bare the solution to the problem; you don't need more workers, you just need a few good workers. Result? They made me head of dept and I immediately reduced head count to 4 inclusive of the manager and increased productivity three-fold in one year.

Moderating a forum is always a difficult job because you have sometimes to take unpopular measures.

Our mods are not heavy handed..

I did receive my first deleted post warning in 5 years and the tone used by the mod was cordial and polite..

We're all adults and most things flagged up are just misunderstandings or snark being misread/over-analyzed and most of them are ready to apologize if one of us got offended by a comment.

My only issue sometimes is the perceived partiality of certain decisions due to the human /emotional relationships linking mods to certain individuals..

All animals are equals but some animals are more equal than others..

That's the real danger behind the duty of moderating a forum..

The mods here are not perfect, which means I do not 100% agree with 100% of the things they do laugh.gif, but they're pretty damn good. New mods are going to have learning curves about things like unintended consequences and the amount of sand that can get in a mangina over little things. Cut 'em some slack.

This sounds smart and is good advice. It's time-tested advice, given many times and with much opportunity to see what the outcome is.

With all due respect, however, you are inactive on the Mens Clothing forum and you might not feel what a shithole it is as keenly as those of us who continue to participate it because our main interest in coming to Styleforum is style, not sausage.

If the watering holes on SF in which you choose to keep active were similarly made barely functional, I think your tone on the subject might be different, assuming that you stayed on SF at all.

He notes it unironically, but do you see the irony?

It often feels like that when one cares. You're a better man for it.
